CONTRACTOR shall take special care to check with the responsible authorities<br />

for special conditions applying to working on, over, under or through minor water<br />

crossings and CONTRACTOR shall comply with any such conditions. Written<br />

arrangements with authorities shall be drawn up in cooperation with COMPANY.<br />

5.7 For crossings beneath the bed <strong>of</strong> water courses, the pipe section shal be made<br />

in such a way that it conforms to the existing or future bed as indicated in the<br />

approved drawings. In crossings for which an individual drawing has not been<br />

prepared, the minimum cover <strong>of</strong> the pipeline shall not be less than that indicated<br />

in the standard drawings for a similar type <strong>of</strong> crossing.<br />

5.8 Whenever the crossing requries a straight section <strong>of</strong> pipe between the lower<br />

bends coinciding with the river bed, this section shall be laid at a single<br />

horizontal level.<br />

5.9 For crossings <strong>of</strong> ditches, canals, banked channels, etc. by boring, the pipe<br />

section shall be prepared, laid and tested in accordance with the applicable<br />

clauses <strong>of</strong> Section 3.0 <strong>of</strong> this specification.<br />

5.10 The CONTRACTOR shall arrange temporary installation <strong>of</strong> diversions as may<br />

be necessary, to ensure the effective functioning <strong>of</strong> these water courses<br />

crossed, to the entire satisfaction <strong>of</strong> the concerned Local Authorities as well as<br />

the COMPANY.<br />

5.11 Banks and trenches <strong>of</strong> minor water crossings shall be backfilled with soil which<br />

is to be approved by COMPANY and shall be thoroughly compacted to prevent<br />

soil and bank erosion as per the drawings and standards to the satisfaction <strong>of</strong><br />

authorities having jurisdication there<strong>of</strong> and the COMPANY. Whenever boulders,<br />

rock, gravel and other hard objects are encountered, they shall not be placed<br />

directly on the pipe. Sufficient earth, sand or selected and approved backfill<br />

material shall be backfilled initially around and over the pipe to provide a<br />

protective padding or cushion extending to a minimum thickness <strong>of</strong> 30<br />

centimeters around the pipe before backfilling remainder <strong>of</strong> the trench with<br />

excavated or other material as per approved drawings and standards.<br />

After the trench has been backfilled and during the clean up works, the minor<br />

water crossing shall be cleaned at least across the whole <strong>of</strong> the ROW.<br />

When directed by the COMPANY, CONTRACTOR shall stabilise and restore<br />

the bank <strong>of</strong> the water crossings with materials to be supplied by him as follows.<br />
