CONTRACTOR at his own cost shall furnish and maintain watchman detours,<br />

lanterns, traffic lights, barricades, signs, wherever necessary to fully protect the<br />

public.<br />

CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for moving its equipment and men across<br />

or around watercourses. This may require the construction <strong>of</strong> temporary bridges<br />

or culverts. Temporary bridging or access to fording required for Right-<strong>of</strong>-Way<br />

crossing water courses shall be constructed. CONTRACTOR shall ensure that<br />

such temporary works shall not interfere with normal water flow, avoid overflows,<br />

keep the existing morphology unchanged and shall not unduly damage the<br />

banks or water courses. No public ditches or drains shall be filled or bridged for<br />

passage <strong>of</strong> equipment until CONTRACTOR has secured written approval <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Authorities having jurisdiction over the same. CONTRACTOR shall furnish<br />

COMPANY a copy <strong>of</strong> such approval.<br />

4.6 Steep and Rocky Terrain<br />

Grading operations could normally be carried out along the Right-<strong>of</strong>-way with<br />

mechanical excavators or manually. In certain areas, grading may have to be<br />

resorted to exclusively by blasting.<br />

In rough or steep terrain, CONTRACTOR may have to grade access roads and<br />

temporary bypass roads for its own use. Where such access roads do not fall on<br />

the Right-<strong>of</strong>-Way, CONTRACTOR shall obtain necessary written permission<br />

from land owners and tenants and be responsible for all damages caused by the<br />

construction and use <strong>of</strong> such roads, and at no extra cost to COMPANY,<br />

Wherever rocky terrain is encountered, grading shall be carried out in all types <strong>of</strong><br />

solid rocks which cannot be removed until loosened by blasting, drilling, wedging<br />

or by other recognised means <strong>of</strong> quarrying solid rocks.<br />

Where use <strong>of</strong> explosives is required in connection with Right-<strong>of</strong>-Way grading<br />

and trenching, CONTRACTOR shall comply fully with requirements <strong>of</strong> the use <strong>of</strong><br />

explosives as provided under clause 6.3 <strong>of</strong> this Specification.<br />

4.7 Off Right-<strong>of</strong>-Way Damages<br />

CONTRACTOR shall confine all its operations within limits <strong>of</strong> the Right-<strong>of</strong>-Way.<br />

Any damage to property outside ROW shall be restored or settled to the<br />

CONTRACTOR's account.
