18.4 Identification Sign<br />

18.4.1 Flow direction shall be indicated by an arrow in the location stated in Para<br />

a,b,c & d and as directed by Engineer-in-charge.<br />

18.4.2 Colours <strong>of</strong> arrows shall be black or white and in contrast to the colour on<br />

which they are superimposed.<br />

18.4.3 Product names shall be marked at pump inlet, outlet and battery limit in a<br />

suitable size as approved by Engineer-in-charge.<br />

18.4.4 Size <strong>of</strong> arrow shall be either <strong>of</strong> those given in 18.5.<br />

18.5 Colour Bands<br />

18.5.1 As a rule minimum width <strong>of</strong> colour band shall conform to the following<br />

table:<br />

Nominal Pipe Size Width : L(mm)<br />

3” NB and below 25mm<br />

Above 3” NB upto 6” NB 50mm<br />

Above 8” NB upto 12” OD 75mm<br />

Above 12” OD 100mm<br />

Note: For insulated pipes, nominal pipe size means the outside diameter<br />

<strong>of</strong> insulation.<br />

Nominal pipe size figures are to be inches.<br />

18.5.2 Colour band(s) shall be arranged in the sequence shown in Table 18.1<br />

and the sequence follows the direction <strong>of</strong> flow. The relative proportional<br />

width <strong>of</strong> the first colour band to the subsequent bands shall be 4:1,<br />

minimum width <strong>of</strong> any band shall be as per Clause 18.5.1.<br />

18.5.3 Whenever it is required by the Engineer-in-charge to indicate that a<br />

pipeline carries a hazardous material, a hazard marking <strong>of</strong> diagonal strips<br />
