14.3 Nick-Break Test<br />

14.3.1 Preparation<br />

Specimens for Nick-break test with notches thus worked can<br />

break in the base metal, instead <strong>of</strong> in the fusion zone; therefore an<br />

alternative test piece may be used after authorisation by the<br />

COMPANY with a notch cut in the reinforcement <strong>of</strong> outside weld bead<br />

to a maximum depth <strong>of</strong> 1.5mm measured from the surface <strong>of</strong> the weld<br />

bead.<br />

14.4 Macroscopic Inspection<br />

14.4.1 Preparation<br />

Specimens shall be taken from the positions indicated in Fig. 1 <strong>of</strong> this<br />

specification and shall be prepared in accordance with ASTM E2 and<br />

E3.
