7.0 REPAIR OF FIELD JOINT COATING<br />

7.1 If a field joint is detected to be unacceptable after inspection and testing<br />

as per clause no. 6.0 <strong>of</strong> this specification. The CONTRACTOR shall , at<br />

his own cost :<br />

- determine the cause <strong>of</strong> the faulty results <strong>of</strong> the coatings.<br />

- mobilise the services <strong>of</strong> expert <strong>of</strong> manufactures, if required.<br />

- test to the complete satisfaction <strong>of</strong> the OWNER, already completed<br />

field joint coatings.<br />

- stop joint coating until remedial measures are taken against the<br />

causes <strong>of</strong> such failures, to the complete satisfaction <strong>of</strong> the<br />

OWNER.<br />

7.2 CONTRACTOR shall replace all the joints coating found or expected to be<br />

unacceptable as per clause no. 6.0 <strong>of</strong> this specification.<br />

7.3 CONTRACTOR shall, at his own cost repair all areas where the coating<br />

has been removed for testing by the OWNER or by the CONTRACTOR<br />

to the complete satisfaction <strong>of</strong> the OWNER.<br />

7.4 The upright edges <strong>of</strong> the damaged areas shall be chamfered, in addition<br />

to the steel shall be free from rust, dirt, oil and grease. The coating around<br />

the damaged area shall be roughened. After thorough mixing (in<br />

accordance with the recommendations <strong>of</strong> the manufacturer) the filler shall<br />

be applied, to sufficient Thickness with the aid <strong>of</strong> stooping knife, whilst<br />

observing ample overlap hardening. The material will require the approval<br />

<strong>of</strong> OWNER.<br />

7.5 After the coating work on welded joints and repairs to the coating have<br />

been completed, The coating area as a whole shall be tested with sparktester<br />

before pull back/ lowering/jacking the pipeline.<br />

7.6 Company shall be entitled to check the coating on buried pipelines or<br />

parts <strong>of</strong> pipelines with equipment such as the “Pearson meter” and the<br />

resistance meter. If the coating defects are established, the Contractor<br />

shall be responsible for excavation at such points, repairing the coating,<br />

spark testing and backfilling the excavations without extra charge.<br />
