j) Each joint shall bear an identification number which shall be maintained<br />

in the piping sketch to be prepared by the contractor. The joint<br />

identification number should appear on the corresponding post weld heat<br />

treatment charts. The same identification numbers shall also be followed<br />

for identification for corresponding radiographic films. The chart<br />

containing the identification numbers and piping sketch shall be<br />

submitted to the Engineer-in-charge in suitable folders.<br />

k) The hardness <strong>of</strong> the heat affected zone as well as <strong>of</strong> the weld metal, after<br />

heat treatment, shall be measured using suitable hardness tester and<br />

shall not exceed the maximum hardness specified in the welding<br />

specification chart. The weld joint shall be subjected to re-heat treatment<br />

when hardness measured exceeds the specified limit, at the contractor's<br />

own expenses.<br />

l) The contractor shall arrange for the hardness testing and shall maintain<br />

the records <strong>of</strong> all joints tested. These records shall be checked by the<br />

plant Owner's inspector.<br />

1.12 Cleaning <strong>of</strong> the Weld Joints<br />

All weld joints shall be free from adherent weld spatter, slag, dirt or foreign<br />

matter. This can be achieved by brushing.<br />

1.13 Inspection & Testing<br />

1.13.1 General<br />

a) The owner's inspector shall have free access to all concerned areas,<br />

where the actual work is being performed. The contractor shall also <strong>of</strong>fer<br />

the Owner's inspector all means and facilities necessary for carrying out<br />

inspection.<br />

b) The owner is entitled to depute his own inspector to the shop or field<br />

where pre-fabrication and erection <strong>of</strong> pipelines are being done with (but<br />

not limited to) the following objectives :-<br />

i. To check the conformance to relevant standards and suitability <strong>of</strong><br />

various welding equipments and the welding performance.
