4.1 General<br />

a) The application procedure shall be in accordance with<br />

manufacturer’s instruction and the minimum requirements required<br />

below whichever are the most stringent and shall be demonstrated<br />

to and approved by the Owner.<br />

b) Contractor shall provide and maintain mobile facilities which<br />

contains all necessary tools, propane torches, epoxy primer pumps,<br />

silicon rollers, testing instruments, equipment, and spares for<br />

cleaning, coating, repairs, inspection and testing.<br />

c) Contractor shall furnish sufficient number <strong>of</strong> the following<br />

equipment and the required spares as a minimum for inspection<br />

and testing purpose for each crew :<br />

- Fully automatic full circle adjustable holiday detector with<br />

audio and visual output signal for inspection <strong>of</strong> coating.<br />

- Portable Tensile Strength Tester<br />

- Digital Thermometer<br />

- Solid state digital thickness gauge for measuring thickness<br />

<strong>of</strong> joint coating.<br />

4.2 Pipe Surface Preparation<br />

a) The Contractor shall thoroughly clean and dry the joint surface by<br />

power tool cleaning in accordance with SSPC-SP1. The complete<br />

procedure and details <strong>of</strong> equipment used shall be prepared by the<br />

Contractor for Owner’s approval prior to commencement <strong>of</strong> joint<br />

coating work.<br />

b) Prior to cleaning operation, Contractor shall visually examine the<br />

joint surface area and shall ensure that all defects, flats and other<br />

damages have been repaired or removed.<br />

c) Where oil, grease or other materials detrimental to the finished<br />

coating is present, it shall be removed with a continuous removal<br />

solvents cleaning system to remove completely all such materials in<br />

accordance with SSPC-SP1.<br />

d) The standard <strong>of</strong> finish for cleaned pipe surface shall conform to SA<br />

2½ <strong>of</strong> Swedish Standard SIS-055900 latest edition. The degree <strong>of</strong><br />

preparation required to obtain an end product that fulfil the<br />
