3.5 Materials shall be stored in sheltered storage in the manufacturer’s original packing<br />

and away from direct sunlight and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.<br />

3.6 CONTRACTOR shall provide and maintain mobile facilities which contains all<br />

necessary equipment and its spares for cleaning, coating repairs, inspection and<br />

tests.<br />

3.7 CONTRACTOR shall furnish sufficient number <strong>of</strong> the following equipment and the<br />

required spares as a minimum for inspection and test purpose for each crew.<br />

a) Fully automatic full circle adjustable holiday detector with a visible and<br />

audible signal system for inspection <strong>of</strong> coatings.<br />

b) Thickness gauge for measuring thickness.<br />

c) Contact type temperature recording thermometer.<br />

d) Roughness pr<strong>of</strong>ile measuring (Stylus) instrument.<br />

4.0 APPLICATION PROCEDURE<br />

4.1 General<br />

4.1.1 The application procedure shall be in accordance with manufacturer's instruction<br />

and the minimum requirements specified below whichever are most stringent and<br />

shall be demonstrated to and approved by the company. Manufacturer’s expert<br />

shall supervise the application and shall be available at site upon request during<br />

qualification <strong>of</strong> application procedure and during construction at CONTRACTOR’S<br />

cost.<br />

4.1.2 Operators for coating application shall be given necessary instructions and<br />

training before start <strong>of</strong> work, by the CONTRACTOR. To verify and qualify the<br />

application procedures, all coating applied during the qualification test, shall be<br />

removed for destructive testing as detailed subsequently in this specification.<br />

Contractor shall only utilize those operators who have been approved/ prequalified<br />

by the field joint coating manufacturer.<br />

4.1.3 Oil, grease, salt shall be removed from steel surface by wiping with rags soaked<br />

with suitable solvents such as naphtha or benzene. Kerosene shall not be used for<br />

this purpose. Solvent cleaning procedure according to SSPC-SP 1 shall be followed.<br />

4.1.4 Each field joint shall be blast cleaned using a closed cycle blasting unit or an open<br />

expendable blasting equipment. With the first equipment type, steel or chilled shot<br />

and iron grit shall be used and Garnet material with the second one. During blast<br />

cleaning the pipe surface temperature shall be simultaneously more than 5° and<br />

more than 3°C above ambient Dew Point, while the ambient Relative Humidity shall<br />

not be greater than 85%. Prior to surface cleaning the surface shall be completely<br />

dry. The surface shall be cleaned to a grade Sa 2½ in accordance with Swedish<br />

Standard SIS-055900 with a roughness pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> 50-70 microns. Surface<br />

roughness pr<strong>of</strong>ile shall be measured using an approved pr<strong>of</strong>ile comparator in<br />

accordance with ISO 8503-1 and shall be calibrated prior to the start <strong>of</strong> the work in<br />
