13.3 Weld Rejected by Accumulation <strong>of</strong> Defects<br />

Where a weld is rejected by the accumulation <strong>of</strong> defect clause, as defined by API<br />

1104 and this specification, repairs within these limitations are permitted. Defects<br />

in the filling and capping passes shall be repaired preferentially.<br />

14. DESTRUCT<strong>IV</strong>E TESTING OF WELDED JOINT - BUTT WELDS<br />

14.1 Preparation<br />

Having passed the visual and the non-destructive-inspection the test weld shall<br />

be subject to mechanical test.<br />

After satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> all visual and non-destructive testing the test weld<br />

shall be set aside for a period not less than 24hours. No further work on the test<br />

weld and no cutting <strong>of</strong> test specimens from the weld shall be performed until a<br />

period <strong>of</strong> at least 24 hours has expired.<br />

Weld specimens shall be taken from the positions indicated in Fig. 1 <strong>of</strong> this<br />

specification from areas as free from defects as possible; for this reason it is<br />

necessary to take the previous non-destructive tests into account. The minimum<br />

number <strong>of</strong> tests to be carried out is given in Table-1 <strong>of</strong> this specification.<br />

The tests shall be carried out in laboratories approved by the COMPANY. The<br />

specimens shall be prepared in accordance with the figures given in the<br />

paragraphs which refer to the individual tests.<br />

14.2 Tensile Strength<br />

Specimens shall be taken from the position indicated in Fig. 1 & 1A <strong>of</strong> this<br />

specification. Two ISO type specimens and two API - type specimens shall be<br />

taken.<br />

The ISO test specimen are shown in Fig. 2 <strong>of</strong> this specification.<br />

14.2.1 Method<br />

The test shall be carried out in accordance with ISO:375.<br />
