1.0 SCOPE<br />

1.1 This specification defines the requirements <strong>of</strong> design, engineering supply <strong>of</strong> materials,<br />

installation, testing and commissioning <strong>of</strong> temporary cathodic protection system <strong>of</strong><br />

external surface <strong>of</strong> cross country underground pipeline/structure including<br />

supplementing <strong>of</strong> corrosion survey, investigation for interference/ interaction problems<br />

and mitigation <strong>of</strong> the same. Unless otherwise specified monitoring <strong>of</strong> the temporary<br />

cathodic protection system till the commissioning <strong>of</strong> permanent C.P. System shall be<br />

carried out by temporary C.P. contractor.<br />

This specification defines the basic guidelines to develop a suitable temporary cathodic<br />

protection system for the structure required to be protected. All data required in this<br />

regard shall be taken into consideration to develop an acceptable design and for<br />

proper engineering <strong>of</strong> the system.<br />

1.2 Compliance with these specifications and/ or approval <strong>of</strong> any <strong>of</strong> the contractor's<br />

documents shall in no case relieve the contractual obligations.<br />

1.3 In case where temporary and permanent cathodic protection works are being<br />

executed by the same agency, activities <strong>of</strong> permanent CP system which are common<br />

to temporary CP system shall be completed as part <strong>of</strong> temporary CP system. In cases<br />

where temporary and permanent cathodic protection works are being executed by<br />

different agencies, the contractual scope <strong>of</strong> work shall be referred for further details.<br />

1.4 All work to be performed and supplies to be effected as a part <strong>of</strong> contract shall require<br />

specific approval <strong>of</strong> owner or his authorised representative. Major activities requiring<br />

approval shall include but not be limited to the following :-<br />

• Corrosion survey data interpretation report and design basis for CP system.<br />

• CP system design package<br />

• Purchase requisitions for major equipment and vendor approval<br />

• Detailed engineering package<br />

• Field testing and commissioning procedure<br />

• Procedures for interference testing and mitigation<br />

• CPL survey and system monitoring procedures<br />

2.0 CODES AND STANDARDS<br />

The system design, performance and materials to be supplied shall unless otherwise<br />

specified, conform to the requirements <strong>of</strong> latest relevant applicable standards <strong>of</strong> :-<br />

BS specifications and codes <strong>of</strong> practice<br />

ANSI specifications<br />

NFPA publications<br />
