Ziya Azazi
Je ne parle pas français. If I could speak French, of course, I would prefer to speak with
you, but unfortunately, I can’t. To be honest, there are many ways to explain such a question.
I am going to try to use the image of the soufi. They talk about becoming a mirror,
a channel, which means that you forget yourself. Before me, there is a man from the
orient. A boy from Azazi Family. Before Azazi, I am from this geography. Before this geograghy,
I am human. Before I’m a human, I am an organism. Before I’m an organism, I am
just matter. Before matter, I am just energy. The story gœs back to the begining. Or to the
end. Because the end is the same. Therefore, if I really search for deepness, for language,
I try to forget myself because I am boring, because it is just me. Of course, I enjoy being
also me ! The people enjoy seeing Ziya, and it is also boring sometimes to be with Ziya.
Therefore I make this in my danse too, as everyone dœs, I search to go deeper, which
means, as the soufi explain, to become a mirror. So as much as forget myself, I become
a mirror. If I put the mirror on front of me, the mirror is me, if I put it in front of the
camera, the camera is me, if I put it in front of Thierry, I am the person who speaks with
the others. I am joking. Maybe it is too much. But the point is to become a mirror and
empty yourself, and become clean. I call it clean, because I empty myself. I clean myself.
Thierry Fabre
In the same way as Zad Moultaka.
Ziya Azazi
Yes. Just as you said, to become a child again. You don’t know anything, you just start.
While you’re doing it, you realize. Ah, there is this. There is that. And then, you start building
up yourself. This can become either composition, or sentences, or danse, mouvements.
Therefore I call it going back, cleaning oneself.
Thierry Fabre
