Anàlisi fisiogràfica de topònims andorrans d’arrel preromana
Una visió propera i tècnica del territori a través dels noms de lloc

En el present treball s’aborda l’estudi de topònims andorrans (conca de la Valira)
sospitosos de ser preromans mitjançant una metodologia de treball basada en anàlisis
fisiogràfiques comparatives (paisatgístiques, geològiques, etc.), el coneixement històric
i lingüístic del territori i la comparació amb el basc. Per aquest estudi es parteix del
principi definit per Joan TORT (2003: 678)], que assenyala que “en condicions
determinades d’espai i de temps un topònim tendeix a reflectir algun aspecte
geogràficament significatiu del territori al qual fa referència”, postulant que en origen
un gran nombre dels topònims preromans també havien de respondre a aquesta premissa
perquè els nom de lloc són conceptes fossilitzats de temps passats que inclouen una
informació sobre la percepció de l’indret per part dels antics pobladors. Per a cada
topònim estudiat en detall es presenta una fitxa amb descripció fisiogràfica, recull de
mencions antigues, fotografies i altra documentació representativa de l’indret designat
pel nom de lloc. Així mateix, s’han efectuat agrupacions de topònims amb similituds
fisiogràfiques i lèxiques i, quan ha estat possible, s’han intentat establir comparacions
amb el basc i assenyalar eventuals etimologies.

Abstract
The present work examines the study of place names in Andorra (basin Valira)
suspected to be pre-Roman through a methodology based on physiographic comparative
analysis (landscape, geology, etc.), linguistic and historical knowledge of the territory
and Basque comparison. This study is based on the principle of Joan TORT (2003: 678)
that says that “under certain conditions of space and time, a name tends to reflect some
geographically significant aspect of the territory referred to” This paper argues that in
origin pre-Roman names also had to respond to this premise, because place names are
fossilized concepts of the past and include information of the perception of the place by
the ancient inhabitants. For each name studied in detail we present a sheet with a
physiographic description, old mentions, photographs and others documents
representative of the place designated by the name. We have, also, made groups with
and similar lexical and physiographic names; and, when it has been possible, we have
tried to draw comparisons with the Basque and indicate possible etymologies.
