Norman L. “Ping” THOMPSON, 75, Roann, died at 12:26 p.m Thursday at Wabadsh<br />

<strong>County</strong> Hospital.<br />

He was born in Akron to John and Mammie WOOLPERT THOMPSON. On Sept. 6,<br />

1942, near Warsaw, he married Virginia SHOEMAKER, who survives. He retired in 1980 from<br />

General Tire, Wabash. He lived in the Roann area since 1946 and attended the Olive Branch<br />

Church of God, near Roann. He also lived in Miami and <strong>Fulton</strong> counties. He was a part-time<br />

farmer.<br />

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Mrs. Billy (Nancy) McCARTY, Roann; two<br />

sisters, Helen HARTZLER, Akron; and Marjorie DAVIS, Bluffton; four grandchildren, Jennie<br />

OWENS, Silver Lake; Scott and Randy JAMES, both of Roan; and Maria VIGAR, Roann; six<br />

great-grandchildren, Shawnte, Austin and Dannielle OWENS, all of Silver Lake; Tyler and Kylie<br />

JAMES, both of Roann; and Ben VIGAR, Roann. Preceding in death were three sisters and five<br />

brothers.<br />

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Roann Chapel, Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral<br />

Service, with the Rev. Lowell BURRUS officiatng. Burial will be in the Roann Community<br />

Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made<br />

to the American Heart Association.<br />

Robert S. McGriff<br />

Oct. 8, 1920 - Jan. 12, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Robert S. McGRIFF, 75, 12727 West 20th B Road, Argos, died following a brief ilness<br />

at 9:40 am. Friday at St. Joseph Hospital of Marshall <strong>County</strong>.<br />

He was born in Mishawaka to Parker R. and Elsie STAYTON McGRIFF. He lived most<br />

of his life in the Argos area, moving from the Potato Creek community near South Bend. On Oct.<br />

23, 1951 in Argos he married Mary C. STAYTON who survives. He was an employee of Line<br />

Star Corp., Bremen, for 20 years. He farmed and also worked for the Argos Police Department,<br />

Kingsbury Ordnance Plant and the Marshall <strong>County</strong> Probation Department. He and his wife cared<br />

for foster-children for the last 40 years. He attended Santa Anna Church, near Argos, and served<br />

in the Army durig World War II.<br />

Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Cheryl) EBERHARD, Rome,<br />

Ohio; Mrs. Monty (Barbara) PEDEN, <strong>Rochester</strong>; and Mrs. Rex (Nancy) McFARLAND, Argos;<br />

one son, James L. and Jackie [McGRIFF], Lake Forrest, Calif.; eight grandchdren; greatgrandchildren;<br />

one sister, Marcella SMELTZ, Romulus, Mich., and three brothers, Paul and<br />

Dorothy [McGRIFF], and Raymond and Mary [McGRIFF], both of Argos, and Alvin J. and<br />

Donna [McGRIFF], Fort Myers, Fla. Preceding in death was one sister, Rosemary MONTAGUE,<br />

and two brothers, Mx and Rolland [McGRIFF].<br />

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grossman Funeral Home, Argos, with the Rev. Roy<br />

FISHBURN officiating. Burial will be in the Jordan Cemetery, southwest of Argos. Friends may<br />

call from 4-8 p.m. today and one hour before services Sunday. Memorials may be made to the<br />

Marshall <strong>County</strong> Neighborhood Center, 402 West Garro St., Plymouth.
