Vern Eugene Herrell<br />

June 21, 1925 - Jan. 28, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Vern Eugene HERRELL, 70, New Chester, Wis., died Sunday, Jan. 28, at Nellis Federal<br />

Hospital, Las Vegas, Nev.<br />

He was born in Miami to Floyd and Pearl BAKER HERRELL. He moved with his<br />

family to Rt. 4, <strong>Rochester</strong>, in 1930. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II<br />

and received the Purple Heart. On Dec. 23, 1945, in <strong>Rochester</strong>, he married O. Frances<br />

MUTCHLER, who survives. After being discharged from the service in 1946, he and his wife<br />

returned to <strong>Rochester</strong> and farmed with his father. <strong>The</strong>y moved to Adams <strong>County</strong>, Wis., in<br />

February 1955, where he farmed.<br />

He was a member of the Snyder Richardson American Legion Post 273, Grand Marsh;<br />

town constable for New Chester; member of the original committee to develop the New Chester<br />

Fire Department and was first fire chief of that departmet; member of the Adams <strong>County</strong> board of<br />

Planning and Zoning; and a life member of the D.A.V.<br />

Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Lois CHRISTENSEN, Adams, Wis; Karen<br />

GILMORE, Athens, Texas; and Lori WHEELER, Appleton, Wis.; four sons, Larry HERRELL,<br />

Berlin, Wis.; Roger and Tim HERRELL, both of Medford, Wis.; and Tony HERRELL, Oxford,<br />

Wis; thirteen grandchildren; three sisters; and one brother.<br />

Services were held at 10 a.m Saturday, Feb. 3, at Roseberry’s Funeral Home, Friendship,<br />

Wis. Military rites were conducted by the Adams Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6279, American<br />

Legion Red Cloud Post 250 and the American Legion Snyder Richardson Post 273. Burial was in<br />

the Gould Rock Cemetery, Grand Marsh, Wis.<br />

Jack P. Mehring<br />

March 29, 1922 - Feb. 7, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Jack P. MEHRING, 73, Life Care Center, <strong>Rochester</strong>, died at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday at his<br />

residence.<br />

He was born in Wabash to Harry R. and Edna PALMER MEHRING. On March 12,<br />

1948, in Wabash, he married Dorohy Jean MEHRING, who died on May 6, 1985. He retired from<br />

Wabash Metal Products and was a disc jockey for Radio W.A.Y.T. in Wabash, hostig the swap<br />

shop. He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, <strong>Rochester</strong>. He had lived in<br />

<strong>Rochester</strong> since 1992, having come from Wabash.<br />

Surviving are two sons, James E. MEHRING, New Castle; and John D MEHRING,<br />

<strong>Rochester</strong>; one daughter, Pamela Sue PEDEGO, and six grandchildren.<br />

Private services were held today at Main Street Chapel, Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral<br />

Home, Wabash, with the Rev. John ZAHN officiating. Burial was in the Friends Cemetery,<br />

Wabash.
