Martha E. HOFFMAN, 80, Rochester, died at 10:16 a.m. Thursday following an illness at
Woodlawn Hospital where she had been a patient for the past eight days. She had been in failing
health for the past two years.
Boen in Newcastle Township to Harley and Carrie DUDGEON MATHEWS she married
Lavoy B. HOFFMAN on January 13, 1935 in South Bend.
She had lived her entire life in Newcastle Township and had been employed as a clerk in
the former Wiles Departmet Store, Rochester. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church
and the Better Homes Club in Newcastle Township.
She is survived by her husband, Lavoy; two daughters, Mrs. Phillip (Janice) PRATT,
Rochester, and Mrs. Sharon BEAMAN, Kokomo; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Rosemary HOFFMAN,
Bloomington; seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. In addition she is survived
by a sister, Mrs. Harold (Mildred) MEISER, Rochester; and two brothers, Ernest and wife Claire
MATHEWS, Lakeville, and Herman and wife Charlotte MATHEWS, Rochester. She was
preceded death by a son, Richard [HOFFMAN], her twin sister, Mary KINDIG, and a sister
Minne MATHEWS.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester,
with the Rev. Junior BOSE officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rochester.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to the services on
Sunday.
Memorials other than flowers may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church.
