George B. Lanning<br />

Sept. 5, 1916 - Oct. 1, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Rev. George B. LANNING, 80, Kentland, died Tuesday at 7:50 p.m. in the Jasper<br />

<strong>County</strong> Hospital.<br />

Born in Sweetser, Father Lanning attended St. Mary’s College, St. Mary’s, Ky., and St.<br />

Meinrad Seminary. He retired in 1988 after serving 24 years as pastor of St. Joseph Church of<br />

Kentland. He was an assistant at St. Joan of Arc, Kokomo before being appointed pastor of<br />

Immaculate Conception, Portland, with mission at St. Joseph, Winchester in 1949. He was a U.S.<br />

Navy chaplain and chaplain at the state reformatory at Pendleton. He was pastor at St. Joseph,<br />

<strong>Rochester</strong>, from 1957 to 1964, when he transferred to Kentland.<br />

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Rensselaer, and the American Legion<br />

Post 23, Kentland.<br />

He is survived by a brother Robert LANNING of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death<br />

by a sister, Gladys [LANNING].<br />

Funeral services will be in Kentland with a Mass offered at 11 a.m Friday at St. Joseph<br />

with Bishop William HIGI officiating. Interment will be in St Joseph Cemetery. Military rites<br />

will be conducted at the graveside. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at St. Joseph Church<br />

with a Rosary at 8 p.m. and the body will lie in state one hour prior to the services on Friday.<br />

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph School Foundation.<br />

Joni GOODMAN BERRY, 40, Ft. Wayne, died Wednesday at Parkview Memorial<br />

Hospital, Ft. Wayne.<br />

Born in Frankfort to Richard and Betty GOODMAN, she moved to Ft. Wayne in 1960.<br />

She had worked as a Work Release Coordinator for 10 years at the Allen <strong>County</strong> Sheriff’s<br />

Department and had worked at the Olive Garden and Hall’s Orchard House for three years.<br />

Surviving are her parents, Betty and Richard GOODMAN, New Haven, a daughter,<br />

Jennifer Nicole BERRY, New Haven, and a brother, Michael J. GOODMAN, Ft. Wayne.<br />

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 US<br />

Highway 30 E., New Haven. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven. Visitation is from<br />

3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.<br />
