Oct. 26, 1897 - Dec. 1, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Lowell E. CANN, 90, <strong>Rochester</strong>, died at 8 a.m. Sunday at ExtendaCare, <strong>Rochester</strong>.<br />

Born in Delta, Ohio to Thomas and Emeline FOSTER CANN, he married Dorothy Mae<br />

SOWERS on Dec. 16, 1918; she died Feb 27, 1971. He had lived here most of his life, having<br />

come from Delta, Ohio. He was a former head lineman with <strong>Public</strong> Service Company of Indiana,<br />

a projectionist at the Char-Bell <strong>The</strong>atre, <strong>Rochester</strong>, and an oil painter. He was a member of the<br />

Masonic Blue Lodge of <strong>Rochester</strong>, Scottish Rite of South Bend. He served several years as<br />

chairman of the <strong>Fulton</strong> <strong>County</strong> Red Cross and as assistant blood chairman. In 1965 he received a<br />

national award for helping with the distribution of food, clothig and medical supplies followig the<br />

tornado disaster of April 15 that struck the Goshen area.<br />

He is survived by one granddaughter, Dr. Janet RENO, Arlington, Va.,; one grandson<br />

Mark SCHALL, Shenyang, China; one great-granddaugher Rachel RENO, Arlington, Va; one<br />

step-bother John Wesley ANDERSON, Toledo, Ohio; and one sister-in-law Margaret SOWERS,<br />

Hagerstown, Md. He was preceded in death by one daughter Mary Kathleen SCHALL in 1983.<br />

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Zimmerman Fanily Funeral Home, <strong>Rochester</strong>,<br />

with the Rev. Lisa DOEGE of the First Unitarian Church of South Bend officiating. Burial will be<br />

in the <strong>Rochester</strong> I.O.O.F. Cemetry. Visitatio is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. conducted by the Rochestr<br />

Lodge.<br />

Memorials may be made to the Masonic Lodge, <strong>Rochester</strong>.<br />

Willard B. Dilts, Jr.<br />

Dec. 14, 1970 - Nov. 23, <strong>1996</strong><br />

<strong>Fulton</strong> <strong>County</strong> Sheriff Bruce BAKER answered a call at 8:10 a.m. involving the death of<br />

Willard B. DILTS, Jr., 25, Twelve Mile. Dilts died in what apparetly was a one-truck accident on<br />

Indiana 25 one mile south of <strong>Fulton</strong>. <strong>The</strong> length of time he spent in the vehicle is uncertain. It<br />

traveled 300 feet from the highway before flipping into a ditch out of sight oif motorists.<br />

Dilts, 26, was last seen alive about 11 p.m. Nov. 23. He was reported missing on Saturay<br />

by extended family members to the Cass <strong>County</strong> Sheriff’s Department.<br />

Baker reported that Dilts’ vehicle, a red 1985 Nissan pickup, had struck a bridge<br />

abutment before leaving the road.<br />

<strong>Fulton</strong> <strong>County</strong> coroner Junior GOOD said Dilts died as the result of injuries he received<br />

during the accident and by drowning.<br />

“His head was submerged under water when he was found,” Good said “My ruling is<br />

that he died of drowning.”<br />

‘ Dilts was a counselor at Four <strong>County</strong> Counseling Center.<br />

Baker said he isn’t sure what caused the accident.<br />

“<strong>The</strong> reason we’re not sure is because we don’t know when the accident happened,”<br />

Baker said. “He was last seen on Nov. 23, but we’re not sure if the accident might have happened<br />

a few days later when we had some slick road conditions.”<br />

He was discovered by Indiana State Highway Departmen workers.<br />

Willard B. “Will” DILTS, Jr., 26, died near State Road 25 south of <strong>Fulton</strong>. He was found<br />

in his truck in a ditch on Monday. Death was due to injuries and apparent drowning.<br />

Born in Logansport to Willard B. and Virginia TAYLOR DILTS, Sr., he had lived most<br />

of his life in <strong>Fulton</strong> <strong>County</strong>. He married Cindy DEAN on Dec. 25, 1992 in New York City; she
