Nov. 2, 1919 - Oct. 25, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Former <strong>Fulton</strong> <strong>County</strong> resident Walter D. HEATON, 76, died Friday at his Paris, Mo.,<br />

residence.<br />

Born in Thorntown to Lawrence and Alma FRY HEATON, he married Jean WHITE on<br />

June 29, 1946 in Yuma, Ariz; she survives. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII, moving<br />

to the <strong>Fulton</strong> <strong>County</strong> area from California where he was employed in the timber industry. He<br />

moved to Paris, Mo., in 1970 and operated a dairy farm until his retirement in 1979.<br />

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Kay WARD, Atlanta, Gayann ROBERTSON,<br />

Paris, Mo.; two sons, Paul L. [HEATON], Crawfordsville, Thomas R. [HEATON], Ruth, Calif;<br />

twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandsons; and a sister Mrs. Louise COOPER, Harlingen,<br />

Texas. He was preceded in death by a sister Lois LEWELLEN.<br />

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today at the Agnew Funeral Home, Paris, Mo. Graveside<br />

services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the <strong>Fulton</strong> Cemetery with Rev. David SOMMERS<br />

officiating. <strong>The</strong>re is no visitation. Zimmerman Family Funeral Home, <strong>Fulton</strong>, is in charge of<br />

local arrangements.<br />

July 3, 1931 - Oct. 26, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Walter L. SMITH, 65, 401 East Main St., Mentone, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at his<br />

residence. He had been in failing health for four months.<br />

Born in Mentone to Roy B. and Betha HOLDERMAN SMITH, he married Jean<br />

KORTHAL on Dec. 23, 1950 in Mentone; she survives. A lifetime area resident he had processed<br />

deer for the last 15 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, <strong>Rochester</strong>, and the Mentone<br />

United Methodist Church, where he conducted many hog roasts.<br />

He is survived by his wife, three sons, Kip SMITH, Bloomington, Jay SMITH, North<br />

Webster, Tim SMITH, Mentone, eight grandchildren; two sisters, Wanda SIMCOE, North<br />

Manchester, Mrs. Mike (Carol) ENGLE, Leesburg; two brothers John SMITH, Warsaw, and<br />

Charles SMITH, Claypool.<br />

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Mentone United Methodist church<br />

with the Revs. Greg RITTENHOUSE and Will LAWSON officiating. Burial will be in Mentone<br />

Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. today at the King Memorial Home, Mentone.<br />

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mentone United Methodist Church Choir.
