Dec. 30, 1909 - Sept. 6, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Russell Arthur NEWELL, 86, Michigantown, died at 9:35 p.m. Friday at the Milner<br />

Health Care Center, Rossville, following a one-week illness.<br />

Born in Pyrmont to Garfield W. and Nellie Pearl DUBES NEWELL, he married Shirley<br />

DEWALD on Sept. 4, 1932. He came to Michigantown as a barber in 1932 nnd was founder of<br />

Newell Gas and Appliances, Michigantown.<br />

He was a graduate of <strong>Fulton</strong> High School, a Navy veteran of WW II serving on the USS<br />

Banner, a member of the Michigantown Christian Church and Beard Masonic Lodge. He was<br />

president of Finance Board when Clinton Centeral School was built and an avid Clinton Central<br />

basketball fan.<br />

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Marcus R NEWELL, Michigantown; two<br />

daughters Mrs. Ralph (Sarah) WEBB and Mrs. Jay (Rosie) McKINNEY, both of rural Frankfort;<br />

ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchidren. He is also survived by a brother, Fredrick E.<br />

NEWELL, Reno, Nev.<br />

Memorial services were at 11 a.m. today at the Michigantown Christian Church, with the<br />

Rev. John MORRIS officiating. Private family burial will be held. Goodwin Funeral Home in<br />

Frankfort was in charge of arrangements<br />

Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigantown Christian Church Building<br />

Fund or the Clinton <strong>County</strong> Heart Fund.<br />

Janet Nellans<br />

Oct. 6, 1910 - Sept. 5, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Janet [ZOOK] NELLANS, 85, South Bend, died Thursday at Memorial Hospital, South<br />

Bend, of natural causes.<br />

Born in <strong>Fulton</strong>, she married Carl R. NELLANS. He died Aug. 29, 1973. She had lived<br />

in the South Bend area since 1984<br />

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Both she and her twin, Janes,<br />

were accomplished musicians. In 1927 in a basketball game between <strong>Fulton</strong> High School and<br />

Roann High School, she socred 75 points and is in the Basketball Hall of Fame in New Castle.<br />

She is survived by two sons, Richard L. NELLANS, Sparta, Mich., Donald R.<br />

NELLANS, Honolula, Hawaii; and four grandchildren. Also surviving is her identical twin sister,<br />

Janes [ZOOK] GRAHAM, South Bend.<br />

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, South<br />

Bend, and burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.
