Garl H. Shank<br />

Dec. 28, 1924 - Nov. 17, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Garl Hartley SHANK, 71, former manager of Manitou Liquors in <strong>Rochester</strong>, died Sunday<br />

in Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego. He had suffered from heart trouble for a number of<br />

years.<br />

Born in Peru to Frank and Blanche SHANK, he married Elizabeth (Van TRUMP)<br />

LICHTEWALTER on Oct. 23, 1969 at the First Presbytrian Church of the Dunes in Chesterton.<br />

He spent five years on Guam as an aerial photographer with the U.S. Marine Corps After his<br />

return to the United States he was in business in Wabash, moving to <strong>Rochester</strong> in 1968. He was a<br />

member of the Fort Wayne Mizpah shrine, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion,<br />

and the Presbyterian Church, <strong>Rochester</strong>.<br />

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Cmdr. Jeffery B. SHANK, U.S. Navy,<br />

Norfolk, Va. a daughter-in-law Maria [SHANK] and twin grandchildren Jeffery [SHANK] II and<br />

Laura Elizabeth [SHANK], Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother Bill SHANK, Peru, a sister Betty<br />

BAKER, Peru and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters.<br />

Burial and military services will be Friday in San Diego.<br />

Carl F. Heiden<br />

July 31, 1928 - Nov. 26, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Carl F. HEIDEN, 68, <strong>Rochester</strong>, formerly of Plymouth, died at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday in the<br />

Woodlawn Hospital Emergency Room.<br />

Born in LaPorte to John F and Nettie HOWELL HEIDEN he married Donna Jean<br />

HASMAN on March 5, 1950 in Kewanna; she died December 26, 1981. He married Betty<br />

SPLIX on June 25, 1983 in Plymouth; she survives.<br />

He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Koran War and had worked for Torin<br />

Manufacturing Co. for 25 1/2 years before retiring He was a member of St. John Luthran Church,<br />

<strong>Rochester</strong> Elks, <strong>Rochester</strong> Moose, Logansport Eagles, and Kewanna Veterans of Foreign Wars,<br />

James F Talbott Post 1121. He liked golf, boating, big band music and dancing.<br />

In addition to his wife he is survived by one son Courtney HEIDER, <strong>Rochester</strong>; one<br />

daughter Cathy CARPENTER, Plymough; three gradsons, Nicholas HEIDEN, Mississippi, Tyler<br />

and Chad CARPENTER, Plymouth; three step-daughtrs Tammy VOREIS, Charleston, S.C.,<br />

Debra SLEMP, Plymouth, Patricia NOEL, Granger; six step-gradchildren; two brothers Robert<br />

HEIDEN, Kewana, Donald HEIDEN, Titusville, Fla.; and two sisters Janet JOHNSON, Macy, and<br />

Maryann SHUCK, Logansport. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.<br />

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Harrison-Metzger Chapel, Kewanna, with the<br />

Rev. James W. KREFT officiating. Burial will be in Citizens I.O.O.F Cemetery, Kewanna, with<br />

graveside military services. Visitation is after 10 a.m. Friday until the time of services.<br />

Memorials may be made to the <strong>Fulton</strong> <strong>County</strong> Hospice.
