J. Walter SMYTHE, 71, 5662 W. Second St., (Palestine) Mentone, died at 10:20 a.m.
Tuesday at his residence.
He was born in Warsaw to Harold Asa and Josie Helen HEROD SMYTHE. On Aug. 20,
1942, he married Darlene Irene FINTON, who died on Feb. 21, 1993. He was a lifetime area
resident and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had worked at Orthopedic Equipment,
Bourbon. He retired from DePuy, Warsaw, in 1989. He was a member of Moose Lodge No.
1423, American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, all of Warsaw.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Linda) WOLFE, Palestine; and Mrs. Jeff
(Connie) RUSSELL, Topeka, Kan.; two sons, Daniel and wife Niki SMYTHE, Monticello, Ark.;
and Rodney and wife Paula SMYTHE, Palestine; one sister, Betty UTTER, Rochester; one
brother, Harry and wife Buthene SMYTHE, Mentone; and seven grandchildren; three greatgradchildren.
Preceding in death were five brothers, Leon, Kenneth, Harold Jr., Robert and Gene
Earl [SMYTHE].
Services will be at 1 p.m Friday at King Memoria Home, Mentone. Burial will be in the
Palestine Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars
and American Legion. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral
home.
Joseph A. Williams
March 10, 1908 - March 6, 1996
Joseph A. WILLIAMS, 87, 438 East 750 South, Rochester, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday
at the Life Care Center of Rochester.
He was born in Liberty Township, Fulton County, to Willard and May WHYBREW
WILLIAMS. On Jan. 21, 1933, in Rochester, he married Anna L. BALDWIN, who died on Sept.
23, 1988. He was a retired farmer and livestock hauler. He was a member of the Fulton United
Methodist Church, 50-year member of the Fulton Masonic Lodge, South Bend Scottish Rite, Fort
Wayne Mizpah Shrine and 50-year member of the Fulton Fire Department.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jim (Shirley) BROWN, Rochester; one son, Don D. and
wife Carrie WILLIAMS, Rochester; four grandchildren, Mike WILLIAMS, Laguna, Calif.; Perry
BROWN, Rochester; Kip WILLIAMS, Wheatfield; and Pat BROWN, Ossian; and four greatgrandchildren.
Preceding in death were two brothers, Chester [WILLIAMS], who died on Oct. 12,
1994, and Clarence [WILLIAMS], who died in 1933.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Zimmerma Family Funeral Home, Fulton, with
the Rev. George HAPNER officiating. Burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery. Friends may call
from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to
the Fulton United Methodist Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
