April 5, 1924 - March 5, <strong>1996</strong><br />

J. Walter SMYTHE, 71, 5662 W. Second St., (Palestine) Mentone, died at 10:20 a.m.<br />

Tuesday at his residence.<br />

He was born in Warsaw to Harold Asa and Josie Helen HEROD SMYTHE. On Aug. 20,<br />

1942, he married Darlene Irene FINTON, who died on Feb. 21, 1993. He was a lifetime area<br />

resident and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had worked at Orthopedic Equipment,<br />

Bourbon. He retired from DePuy, Warsaw, in 1989. He was a member of Moose Lodge No.<br />

1423, American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, all of Warsaw.<br />

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Linda) WOLFE, Palestine; and Mrs. Jeff<br />

(Connie) RUSSELL, Topeka, Kan.; two sons, Daniel and wife Niki SMYTHE, Monticello, Ark.;<br />

and Rodney and wife Paula SMYTHE, Palestine; one sister, Betty UTTER, <strong>Rochester</strong>; one<br />

brother, Harry and wife Buthene SMYTHE, Mentone; and seven grandchildren; three greatgradchildren.<br />

Preceding in death were five brothers, Leon, Kenneth, Harold Jr., Robert and Gene<br />

Earl [SMYTHE].<br />

Services will be at 1 p.m Friday at King Memoria Home, Mentone. Burial will be in the<br />

Palestine Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars<br />

and American Legion. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral<br />

home.<br />

Joseph A. Williams<br />

March 10, 1908 - March 6, <strong>1996</strong><br />

Joseph A. WILLIAMS, 87, 438 East 750 South, <strong>Rochester</strong>, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday<br />

at the Life Care Center of <strong>Rochester</strong>.<br />

He was born in Liberty Township, <strong>Fulton</strong> <strong>County</strong>, to Willard and May WHYBREW<br />

WILLIAMS. On Jan. 21, 1933, in <strong>Rochester</strong>, he married Anna L. BALDWIN, who died on Sept.<br />

23, 1988. He was a retired farmer and livestock hauler. He was a member of the <strong>Fulton</strong> United<br />

Methodist Church, 50-year member of the <strong>Fulton</strong> Masonic Lodge, South Bend Scottish Rite, Fort<br />

Wayne Mizpah Shrine and 50-year member of the <strong>Fulton</strong> Fire Department.<br />

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jim (Shirley) BROWN, <strong>Rochester</strong>; one son, Don D. and<br />

wife Carrie WILLIAMS, <strong>Rochester</strong>; four grandchildren, Mike WILLIAMS, Laguna, Calif.; Perry<br />

BROWN, <strong>Rochester</strong>; Kip WILLIAMS, Wheatfield; and Pat BROWN, Ossian; and four greatgrandchildren.<br />

Preceding in death were two brothers, Chester [WILLIAMS], who died on Oct. 12,<br />

1994, and Clarence [WILLIAMS], who died in 1933.<br />

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Zimmerma Family Funeral Home, <strong>Fulton</strong>, with<br />

the Rev. George HAPNER officiating. Burial will be in the <strong>Fulton</strong> Cemetery. Friends may call<br />

from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to<br />

the <strong>Fulton</strong> United Methodist Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
