Cependant, sur la base d'une étude des effets Physiologiques directs d'une exposition au dioxyde de carbone, par opposition aux symptômes subjectifs, on recommande une concentration d'exposition maximale plus élevée (Section 4.A.2). Il faut cependant remarquer que ces études ont été faites dans des immeubles équipés de systèmes de ventilation mécanique et dont le taux d'occupation est bien différent de celui des maisons privées. De plus, les effets observés ne sont probablement pas attribuables à la présence de concentrations élevées de dioxyde de carbone, mais plutôt b des concentrations indésirables d'autres substances qui proviennent d'une ventilation inadéquate et pour lesquelles le dioxyde de carbone constitue un paramètre indicateur approprié.
