Verification: <strong>of</strong> the battered/DV status is recorded<br />

in Case Comments: This should include a<br />

summary <strong>of</strong> the individual’s statement that they<br />

have been battered or a victim <strong>of</strong> DV (including past<br />

acts <strong>of</strong> violence), and any contacts with the district<br />

DV Liaison, as well as any referrals made. Case<br />

Comments should also include the notation<br />

“BATTERED/DV CASE.”<br />

Processing <strong>of</strong> applications for battered/DV<br />

individuals are expedited and assistance is<br />

given to the individual in completing all<br />

necessary documents to establish eligibility.<br />

Strict confidentiality regarding the individual’s<br />

whereabouts must be maintained.<br />

(Violence Against Women Act).<br />

Refugees<br />

May time-expired refugees apply for GR?<br />

Yes, GR may be used for the relief and support <strong>of</strong><br />

Refugees when the period <strong>of</strong> eligibility for Refugee<br />

Cash Assistance (RCA) has expired. Eligibility for<br />

RCA benefits and Refugee Medi-Cal Assistance<br />

Only benefits expires eight (8) months after the<br />

Refugee’s date <strong>of</strong> entry into the U.S.<br />

NOTE: RCA time-expired Refugee families<br />

must apply for CalWORKs first and if<br />

found to be ineligible, may then apply<br />

for GR.<br />

All GR regulations, including policies for aiding<br />

families and for providing special assistance to<br />

mentally disabled individuals, apply to timeexpired<br />

Refugees aided on GR.<br />
