GR 42-401.1 –<br />

Resident<br />

GR 42-401.2 – Non-<br />

Resident<br />

What is a resident?<br />

A resident is a person who has lived in Los Angeles<br />

County for at least 15 calendar days and intends to<br />

reside here permanently or indefinitely.<br />

What is a non-resident?<br />

A nonresident is a person who is physically present in<br />

the County less than 15 calendar days; or is living in<br />

the County on a temporary basis, and has no intention<br />

<strong>of</strong> remaining in Los Angeles County permanently or<br />

indefinitely; and whose legal residence is outside <strong>of</strong><br />

the County.<br />

EXAMPLE:<br />

A participant has been residing in Los Angeles County<br />

for 20 calendar days and indicated that he/she has no<br />

intention <strong>of</strong> remaining in Los Angeles County, but<br />

wishes to return to Florida.<br />

This participant is considered a nonresident because<br />

he/she is residing in the County temporarily with no<br />

intention <strong>of</strong> remaining in the County.<br />

Alien/Immigrant<br />

Undocumented<br />

What is an alien/immigrant?<br />

An alien/immigrant is a person who is not a citizen <strong>of</strong><br />

the U.S. Following are the categories <strong>of</strong><br />

alien/immigrants:<br />

Undocumented Alien/Immigrant<br />

An undocumented alien/immigrant is a person who<br />

does not have acceptable verification from United<br />

States Citizenship and Immigration <strong>Services</strong> (USCIS)<br />

<strong>of</strong> his/her legal status.<br />

Documented<br />

Documented Alien/Immigrant<br />

A documented alien/immigrant is a person who has<br />

acceptable verification <strong>of</strong> his/her immigrant status<br />

from USCIS.
