Resident
What is a resident?
A resident is a person who has lived in Los Angeles
County for at least 15 calendar days and intends to
reside here permanently or indefinitely.
What is a non-resident?
A nonresident is a person who is physically present in
the County less than 15 calendar days; or is living in
the County on a temporary basis, and has no intention
of remaining in Los Angeles County permanently or
indefinitely; and whose legal residence is outside of
the County.
EXAMPLE:
A participant has been residing in Los Angeles County
for 20 calendar days and indicated that he/she has no
intention of remaining in Los Angeles County, but
wishes to return to Florida.
This participant is considered a nonresident because
he/she is residing in the County temporarily with no
intention of remaining in the County.

What is an alien/immigrant?
An alien/immigrant is a person who is not a citizen of
the U.S. Following are the categories of
alien/immigrants:
Undocumented Alien/Immigrant
An undocumented alien/immigrant is a person who
does not have acceptable verification from United
States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
of his/her legal status.
Documented
Documented Alien/Immigrant
A documented alien/immigrant is a person who has
acceptable verification of his/her immigrant status
from USCIS.
