GR 41-104.3 – DMH/APS<br />

Not in Office<br />

What needs to be done when an NSA referral is<br />

needed but the co-located DMH/APS staff aren’t<br />

in the <strong>of</strong>fice?<br />

• When the DMH/APS Worker is unavailable to<br />

see the individual, a return appointment is made<br />

and the employability status is changed to<br />

employable with a one month exemption.<br />

• The FAC is set for 20 days to obtain the results<br />

<strong>of</strong> the NSA evaluation and to change the<br />

employability status.<br />

Located DMH/APS<br />

What function does the co-located DMH/APS<br />

Staff perform?<br />

The responsibilities <strong>of</strong> the co-located DMH/APS<br />

staff include the following activities:<br />

• Evaluating individuals who exhibit characteristics<br />

<strong>of</strong> mental illness to determine if they appear to<br />

be mentally disabled and if they are potentially<br />

eligible for SSI/SSP, mental health service,<br />

and/or referral for other available services.<br />

• Evaluating individuals who appear to be<br />

developmentally disabled and, if appropriate,<br />

referring them to the Regional Center for<br />

assistance.<br />

• Gathering information from appropriate DPSS<br />

staff to include in the evaluation process.<br />

• Assisting the mentally disabled through the GR<br />

process when they are too disturbed to be<br />

assisted by eligibility staff.<br />

• Assisting mentally disabled in completing<br />

deferred GR eligibility requirements.<br />

• For the DMH/APS co-located staff<br />

responsibilities in the SSI process, refer to SSI<br />

instructions on the intranet.<br />

• Making an appointment for the individual to see<br />

the psychiatrist at the Mental Health Center.
