• If there is proper documentation/verification to<br />

substantiate the overpayment, the collection<br />

continues.<br />

• If information is not available in the case record<br />

or supporting documentation/verification is in<br />

storage, the information must be retrieved.<br />

• When the overpayment cannot be<br />

substantiated, any adjustment must be<br />

rescinded.<br />

• Pending receipt <strong>of</strong> the information needed to<br />

conduct a review, recovery <strong>of</strong> the disputed<br />

overpayment is discontinued.<br />

• Only in situations in which the district has the<br />

case documents readily available for review<br />

should recovery continue.<br />

When are overpayments identified by the A-C<br />

(Auditor-Controller)?<br />

• Cases involving duplicate issuances in which<br />

the individual did not meet reporting<br />

responsibilities are identified by the A-C. The<br />

A-C establishes a claim on LEADER if<br />

duplicate issuances have occurred.<br />

• Occasionally, an individual receives a duplicate<br />

issuance for the same accrual period through<br />

administrative error. The A-C establishes a<br />

claim on LEADER for these cases.<br />

When an individual disputes/challenges an<br />
