• Sponsors who receive public assistance, including<br />

CalWORKs, GR, SSI, CAPI or Refugee benefits<br />

do not incur any financial liability.<br />

‣ They must comply with all requirements,<br />

including signing the ABP 1073, Sponsor’s<br />

Income and Resources Report and<br />

Reimbursement Agreement (a LEADER<br />

generated form).<br />

‣ At such time when the sponsor is no longer on<br />

public assistance, the agreement becomes<br />

binding and all resources and income become<br />

available to the sponsored alien.<br />

• When the sponsor is able to provide partial or full<br />

support, GR is reduced, denied or terminated.<br />

Sponsored Aliens<br />

What are the ways that sponsored aliens can be<br />

recognized/identified?<br />

Eligibility staff may become aware <strong>of</strong> sponsors in any<br />

<strong>of</strong> the following ways:<br />

• ABP 1049, GR Referral for SSI/SSP Application, if<br />

returned by the <strong>Social</strong> Security Administration with<br />

a notation that the individual may reapply after the<br />

sponsorship period.<br />

• Contact with the sponsor who either accompanies<br />

the individual to the <strong>of</strong>fice or calls on behalf <strong>of</strong> the<br />

individual.<br />

• Reported by the Individual, either verbally or on<br />

the DFA 285, Application for Food Stamps – Part<br />

1.<br />

• PA 203-1, Refugee/Entrant Program: VOLAG<br />

Assistance Statement, completed by a<br />

resettlement agency.<br />
