manner without priority handling.<br />

• Individuals who appear to be mentally disabled<br />

are interviewed immediately, before other<br />

individuals waiting in the <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

• Homeless individuals who appear to be mentally<br />

disabled and eligible to GR are issued<br />

emergency aid, as needed, on a priority basis.<br />

Individuals who appear unable to function<br />

independently in a vendor hotel are referred to<br />

co-located DMH/APS staff for assistance and<br />

possible board and care placement.<br />

• Individuals who appear to be mentally disabled<br />

are referred, using a LEADER generated ABP<br />

2012, to co-located DMH/APS staff for mental<br />

health services and assistance with GR eligibility<br />

requirements, including those requirements that<br />

are deferred at the time <strong>of</strong> case approval.<br />

• Cases for individuals determined to be NSA by<br />

DMH/APS or the DDD are transferred<br />

immediately to the designated NSA EW.<br />

• Written instructions to vendor motel/hotels are<br />

provided to individuals who are mentally<br />

disabled, need assistance with reading or are in<br />

wheelchairs using the out <strong>of</strong> drawer PA 211,<br />

Directions to Vendor Hotel/Motel.<br />

What are the responsibilities <strong>of</strong> the specialized<br />

NSA Worker?<br />

In addition to regular duties, specialized NSA EWs:<br />

• Work closely with DMH/APS staff to provide<br />

expedited service to the NSA individual.<br />

• Consult with the DMH/APS staff before<br />

approving, denying or terminating an NSA<br />

individual. Consultation with the DMH/APS staff<br />

prior to approval is necessary because the<br />

DMH/APS staff may require the entire 30 day<br />

processing period to stabilize the individual.<br />
