Ownership Reported<br />

What needs to be done when an individual in an<br />

approved case reports new ownership?<br />

The above 6% utilization requirement must be met<br />

when information <strong>of</strong> new ownership <strong>of</strong> property is<br />

received.<br />

NOTE: If ownership <strong>of</strong> property is not new,<br />

information is evaluated for potential fraud.<br />

GR 42-211.1 –<br />

Allowable Amount<br />

How much personal property can be kept for each<br />

eligible person?<br />

Except as otherwise described below, personal<br />

property worth up to $500 for each aided person may<br />

be kept.<br />

• At intake, for each adult, a maximum <strong>of</strong> $50 ($100<br />

for family cases) cash on hand, negotiable<br />

instruments (e.g., savings bonds, stocks, etc.),<br />

and/or money in a checking or savings account<br />

may be kept. The entire case is ineligible when<br />

an individual/family has more than the maximum.<br />

• For each GR approved case, regardless <strong>of</strong> the<br />

number aided, a maximum <strong>of</strong> $1,500 cash on<br />

hand, negotiable instruments, and/or money in a<br />

checking or savings account in addition to their<br />

share <strong>of</strong> the GR grant may be retained (or the GR<br />

grant plus income, if they have income).<br />

Verification<br />

Verification:<br />

• The recently updated passbook and/or most<br />

recent account statement are reviewed.<br />

• When the individual does not have a recent<br />

statement or if there is borderline eligibility, a<br />

current statement from the bank, credit union or<br />

savings and loan must be provided.<br />

• When the individual only has a passbook for<br />

his/her account, it must be updated by the
