Where do GR individuals receive health care?<br />

Most GR individuals obtain health care from DHS,<br />

directly operated or contracted treatment providers.<br />

Are GR individuals eligible for Medi-Cal?<br />

The following individuals may be eligible for Medi-<br />

Cal and should be referred to Medi-Cal Intake via a<br />

PA 30, Reference Slip, (an out <strong>of</strong> drawer form) if<br />

they want to file an application:<br />

Under age 21 or age 65 or older.<br />

Blind or disabled who meet federal disability<br />

requirements.<br />

NOTE: The federal programs define disability<br />

as “inability to engage in any<br />

substantial gainful activity by reason <strong>of</strong><br />

a medically determinable physical or<br />

mental impairment which can be<br />

expected to result in death or has<br />

lasted or can be expected to last for a<br />

continuous period <strong>of</strong> not less than 12<br />

months…”<br />

Family members who meet CalWORKs<br />

deprivation requirements.<br />

Pregnant.<br />

Residents <strong>of</strong> a skilled nursing home or<br />

intermediate care facility.<br />

Note: Persons receiving long-term inpatient<br />

medical care in a skilled nursing home or<br />

intermediate care facility are not eligible<br />

to GR benefits.<br />

Refer to GR 44-217 for determining the<br />

needs <strong>of</strong> individuals entering a medical<br />

facility.<br />

for Medi-Cal<br />

Can GR individuals apply for Medi-Cal?<br />

Yes, anyone requesting to file a Medi-Cal<br />

application has the right to do so. The Medi-Cal
