GR 44-202.9 Emergency Needs GR 44-202.10 Eligibility When Special Needs are Issued What are emergency needs? An emergency need is one that requires immediate attention, where a hardship would be created if the individual had to wait for the regular GR grant. How is eligibility determined for individuals with Special Needs Payments? At intake, Special Needs issuances are not included in the eligibility determination for applicants. For approved cases, Special needs are included when determining eligibility at annual agreement. GR 44-203 Housing GR 44-203.1 GR Unit What is a GR Unit? A GR Unit is determined for the purpose of deciding who should be aided. EXAMPLE: A husband and wife who are both aided on the same GR case are a GR Unit. EXAMPLE: A sponsored alien family who is determined to be ineligible to CalWORKs because the sponsor refused to provide support or information needed to determine eligibility is a GR Unit. Refer to GR 40-101.3 for details. GR 44-203.2 GR Household What is a GR Household? A GR household must be designated for the purpose of determining the level of GR grant. The GR household includes all persons living at the same address, excluding those receiving State or federal public assistance (CalWORKs, SSI/SSP, CAPI). EXAMPLE: Mr. And Mrs. Jones live together. Mr. Jones is on GR, Mrs. Jones is on SSI. Because Mrs. Jones is on public assistance, this is a household of one. Mr. Jones is aided as “one in a household of one”.
