When a pregnant woman and the father <strong>of</strong> the<br />

unborn are married and living together they are<br />

ineligible to GR and are referred to CalWORKs.<br />

When the pregnant woman and father <strong>of</strong> the<br />

unborn are unmarried and living together they<br />

are ineligible to GR and referred to CalWORKs.<br />

In addition:<br />

Until the child is born, the father may be aided<br />

on a separate GR case.<br />

A Future Action Control (FAC) is set for the<br />

first day <strong>of</strong> the month in which the unborn is<br />

due (e.g., EDD is February 15, 2004, the FAC<br />

is dated February 1, 2004) to terminate the<br />

GR case.<br />

The case is terminated by the first <strong>of</strong> the<br />

month in which the baby is due. (In the<br />

example above, the termination would be<br />

effective February 1, 2004.) A NOA is not<br />

required, as aid will continue under<br />

CalWORKs.<br />

What needs to be done if the pregnancy is<br />

terminated?<br />

When the unborn is lost (e.g., miscarried, stillborn,<br />

etc.) before GR is terminated, the pregnancy end<br />

date and reason must be entered on LEADER. The<br />

case continues (not automatically terminated) for<br />

the woman.<br />

Termination<br />

When GR is terminated should Food Stamps be<br />

terminated too?<br />

No, when GR is terminated, Food Stamps continue<br />

until CalWORKs is approved. GR staff must<br />

coordinate the Food Stamp termination to coincide<br />

with the Food Stamp approval in CalWORKs to<br />

prevent loss <strong>of</strong> Food Stamp benefits.<br />
