GR 41-109.2 – NSA<br />

Training<br />

• NSA Training<br />

All public contact staff are to receive training<br />

provided by DMH Staff who provide guidelines<br />

for identifying and assisting apparently mentally<br />

disabled individuals. <strong>Public</strong> contact staff<br />

includes all administrative staff, ESs, EWs,<br />

Screeners, Customer Service Representative,<br />

Receptionist, Cashier, Unit Clerk, Early Fraud<br />

Investigators (EFI) and Security Officers.<br />

‣ All previously trained staff must be<br />

retrained once each year and new staff<br />

must be trained within one month <strong>of</strong><br />

assignment.<br />

‣ Larger districts are to schedule monthly<br />

training sessions with DMH staff.<br />

‣ Smaller districts, after all public contact<br />

staff have been trained for the year, are<br />

required to schedule training only when<br />

new GR public contact staff are assigned<br />

to their district.<br />

‣ For districts that share a DMH<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional, the district administrators <strong>of</strong><br />

the <strong>of</strong>fice where the DMH pr<strong>of</strong>essional is<br />

housed determines which <strong>of</strong>fice the<br />

training is provided. The location may<br />

rotate from <strong>of</strong>fice to <strong>of</strong>fice each month.<br />

The District Training Liaison/Designate is<br />

to notify district staff, EFIs and Security<br />

Officers <strong>of</strong> their scheduled training<br />

sessions.<br />

When would the District designate an individual<br />

NSA?<br />

After an individual has been determined by<br />

DMH/APS staff not to be NSA, district staff may feel<br />

the need to change the designation to NSA. The<br />

change may be necessitated by:<br />

• District staff observing a change in the person’s<br />

behavior, or
