Verification:<br />

• When the individual does not have the actual<br />

policy, a replacement or statement from the<br />

insurance company must be provided.<br />

• the purpose <strong>of</strong> the insurance policy,<br />

• whether there is any other source to pay for<br />

burial/funeral expenses, and<br />

• the CSV <strong>of</strong> the policy.<br />

Is a Property <strong>Services</strong> referral needed?<br />

Property <strong>Services</strong> referrals should not be made<br />

except in extraordinary circumstances when the value<br />

or status <strong>of</strong> property cannot be determined.<br />

How is the total amount <strong>of</strong> personal property<br />

determined?<br />

LEADER determines the total amount <strong>of</strong> personal<br />

property by adding the CSV and crypt amounts over<br />

$500 to the value <strong>of</strong> stocks, bonds, and other<br />

property.<br />

The total cannot be over $500 per person.<br />

Vehicle<br />

Can an individual own a motor vehicle?<br />

Yes.<br />

• In single person cases, the individual may own an<br />

interest in one motor vehicle with a retail value <strong>of</strong><br />

$4,500 or less, regardless <strong>of</strong> how much is owed.<br />

Only one motor vehicle may be retained, whether<br />

or not the vehicles are inoperable.
