How are approved NSA individuals assisted?<br />

When apparently mentally disabled persons are<br />

observed in the reception area, the Security Officer<br />

or Receptionist alerts the Customer Service<br />

Representative or Reception Supervisor to ensure<br />

they are seen by the appropriate Worker and<br />

receive priority handling.<br />

An individual who is not currently identified as<br />

NSA appears to be NSA, what needs to be<br />

done?<br />

When an individual who is not currently identified as<br />

NSA appears to be potentially mentally disabled,<br />

the following actions are taken:<br />

• Refer the individual IMMEDIATELY, using an<br />

ABP 2012, to co-located DMH/APS staff.<br />

Refer to GR – Needs Special Assistance for<br />

LEADER procedures.<br />

• Flag the case with all the required NSA<br />

identifiers.<br />

• If the ABP 2012 identifies the individual as NSA<br />

and the information is entered onto LEADER,<br />

the employability status is automatically<br />

changed to NSA.<br />

• When the DMH/APS Worker is unavailable on<br />

the day <strong>of</strong> the referral, change the individual’s<br />

employability status to employable with a 30 day<br />

exemption.<br />

• Individuals who appear to be NSA, have been<br />

referred to DMH/APS staff, but have not been<br />

determined to either be or not to be NSA by the
