5. In <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term in every fourth year <strong>the</strong> Registrary shall announce that a Kaye Prize is<br />

to be <strong>of</strong>fered. On or before 19 December next following <strong>the</strong> announcement, each candidate shall give<br />

notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> proposed subject <strong>of</strong> his or her dissertation to <strong>the</strong> Registrary, who shall submit it to <strong>the</strong><br />

Adjudicators and shall communicate its approval or rejection to <strong>the</strong> candidate. Candidates shall send<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir dissertations to <strong>the</strong> Registrary so as to arrive on or before 15 November in <strong>the</strong> year next following<br />

<strong>the</strong> announcement.<br />

6. If dissertations <strong>of</strong> sufficient merit are submitted, it shall be open to <strong>the</strong> Adjudicators to award<br />

one or more additional Kaye Prizes not exceeding in value such sum as shall be determined by <strong>the</strong><br />

Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

7. A prize-winner shall deposit two printed or typewritten copies <strong>of</strong> his or her dissertation in <strong>the</strong><br />

Ca<strong>the</strong>dral Library at Lincoln and one copy in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library.<br />

THOMAS KEEPING FUND<br />

1. The benefaction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Mr T. J. H. H. Keeping shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Thomas Keeping<br />

Fund.<br />

2. The Fund shall be used to support research into <strong>the</strong> prevention and possible cure <strong>of</strong> such diseases<br />

as psoriasis, consumption, diabetes, and cancer.<br />

3. The administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be entrusted to two Managers who shall be <strong>the</strong> Regius<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physic and <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Pathology.<br />

4. Subject to <strong>the</strong> provisions <strong>of</strong> Regulation 2, <strong>the</strong> income or <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund may be applied<br />

from time to time, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers and subject to such conditions as <strong>the</strong>y may think<br />

fit, for <strong>the</strong> following purposes:<br />

(a) to purchase equipment and apparatus;<br />

(b) to make grants to persons who are conducting or who intend to conduct research under <strong>the</strong><br />

direction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physic.<br />

ALEXANDER JAMES KEITH FUND AND STUDENTSHIPS<br />

1. The sum bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> late Miss Christian Keith in memory <strong>of</strong> her bro<strong>the</strong>r,<br />

Alexander James Keith, student <strong>of</strong> Downing College, who was killed in <strong>the</strong> World War <strong>of</strong> 1914 to<br />

1918, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Alexander James Keith Fund.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to provide one or more Studentships for graduate studies<br />

in agriculture, which shall be called Alexander James Keith Studentships.<br />

3. The Electors to <strong>the</strong> Studentships shall be three persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Biology<br />

in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for three years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />

4. Notice <strong>of</strong> an election shall be given by <strong>the</strong> Registrary, after consultation with <strong>the</strong> Electors, not<br />

later than <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term in any year.<br />

5. In order to be eligible for a Studentship a candidate must be a graduate or have been admitted<br />

as a Graduate Student by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Graduate Studies and must intend to engage in graduate studies<br />

in agriculture. A Student who on election is not a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> shall be required to<br />

become a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

6. The value <strong>of</strong> a Studentship shall be such sum not exceeding <strong>the</strong> available income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund as<br />

may be determined by <strong>the</strong> Electors, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council, after<br />

<strong>the</strong>y have taken account <strong>of</strong> any o<strong>the</strong>r financial resources that may be available to <strong>the</strong> Student.<br />

7. A Student shall undertake advanced study or research in agriculture.<br />

8. A Studentship shall be tenable for one year in <strong>the</strong> first instance. A Student may be re-elected for<br />

a second year and again for a third year but for no longer.<br />

9. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be applied from time to time by <strong>the</strong><br />

Electors to make grants to Alexander James Keith Students and to o<strong>the</strong>r students engaged in research<br />

in agriculture in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Biology towards meeting <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> equipment and o<strong>the</strong>r expenses<br />

incurred by <strong>the</strong>m in <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir research.<br />
