THOMAS YOUNG MEDAL<br />

1. The Thomas Young Medal shall be awarded to a candidate who in Part IIB <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Archaeological<br />

and Anthropological Tripos has shown outstanding distinction in any branch <strong>of</strong> oriental archaeology.<br />

2. The Awarders shall meet in June <strong>of</strong> each year in which a candidate <strong>of</strong>fers a branch <strong>of</strong> oriental<br />

archaeology in ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> examinations specified in Regulation 1.<br />

3. The Awarders in any year shall be<br />

(a) The Herbert Thompson Reader in Egyptology;<br />

(b) not more than six persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Human, Social, and Political<br />

Science.<br />

4. No business shall be conducted at a meeting unless at least three Awarders are present.<br />

SHEIKH ZAYED FUND FOR ISLAMIC STUDIES<br />

Amended by Grace 3 <strong>of</strong> 13 March 2013<br />

1. The sums received from <strong>the</strong> Sheikh Zayed Foundation <strong>of</strong> Abu Dhabi for <strong>the</strong> promotion and<br />

encouragement <strong>of</strong> Islamic Studies in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Sheikh Zayed Fund<br />

for Islamic Studies.<br />

2. The Fund shall be under <strong>the</strong> control <strong>of</strong> a Board <strong>of</strong> Managers who shall be:<br />

(a) <strong>the</strong> Vice-Chancellor (or a duly appointed deputy) as Chairman;<br />

(b) <strong>the</strong> Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity;<br />

(c) a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity appointed by that Board;<br />

(d) two persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Trustees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sheikh Zayed Foundation.<br />

3. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> stipend, national insurance, pension<br />

contributions, and associated indirect costs payable by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in respect <strong>of</strong> a <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

established in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Divinity which shall be associated with <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Sheikh Zayed.<br />

4. The second charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> a prize called <strong>the</strong> Sheikh<br />

Zayed Prize for Islamic Studies, which shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Parts IIA and IIB <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Theological and Religious Studies Tripos for distinction in Islamic Studies as shown by performance<br />

in one or more papers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> examination designated for that purpose by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity. 1<br />

The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers, within a range approved from time to<br />

time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

5. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulations 3 and 4, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund<br />

shall be applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers for <strong>the</strong> encouragement <strong>of</strong> Islamic Studies in <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong>.<br />

6. Any unexpended income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund in a financial year may be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Fund or accumulated for use as income in future years, as <strong>the</strong> Managers may determine.<br />

7. The <strong>University</strong> shall have power to alter <strong>the</strong>se regulations by Grace on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity, subject to <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Trustees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sheikh Zayed Foundation.<br />

ZOOLOGY FUND FOR O UTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION<br />

Grace 3 <strong>of</strong> 19 January 2011<br />

1. The sums subscribed in honour <strong>of</strong> former Pr<strong>of</strong>essors in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Zoology to recognize<br />

excellence in performance or outstanding contribution shall form a fund to be called <strong>the</strong> Zoology Fund<br />

for Outstanding Contribution.<br />

2. The capital and income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be at <strong>the</strong> disposal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Zoology to reward, at her or his sole discretion, one or more students, teaching, research, and support<br />

staff in <strong>the</strong> Department who have acquitted <strong>the</strong>mselves with distinction in <strong>the</strong>ir study or work.<br />

The Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity have designated <strong>the</strong> following papers for this purpose until fur<strong>the</strong>r notice: Paper 1D; Paper<br />

C9, in any year in which a subject in Islamic Studies has been prescribed as one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> subjects for this paper.
