The Managers in classes (c) and (d) shall be appointed in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for three<br />

years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />

3. The Fund shall be used to defray <strong>the</strong> expenses <strong>of</strong> visiting scholars invited to <strong>Cambridge</strong> by <strong>the</strong><br />

Managers, or to support research in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, or<br />

for any purpose which in <strong>the</strong> opinion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers will help towards <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study<br />

<strong>of</strong> Chemical Engineering at <strong>Cambridge</strong>.<br />

4. The Managers shall meet in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term <strong>of</strong> each year and at o<strong>the</strong>r times as <strong>the</strong>y think<br />

fit. No resolution <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers shall be valid unless approved by at least three <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir number.<br />

5. The Managers shall report to <strong>the</strong> Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology Syndicate in <strong>the</strong> Lent<br />

Term <strong>of</strong> each year on <strong>the</strong> administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund during <strong>the</strong> previous academical year.<br />

6. Subject to <strong>the</strong> foregoing regulations <strong>the</strong> Managers may make supplementary regulations for <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

own proceedings and administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

SHORE FUND FOR LANGUAGE TEACHING<br />

1. The sum received from an anonymous donor by way <strong>of</strong> endowment shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong><br />

Shore Fund for Language Teaching.<br />

2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Classics, who may delegate any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

functions concerning <strong>the</strong> Fund to a Committee not necessarily composed wholly <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Board.<br />

3. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be to contribute towards <strong>the</strong> stipend, national<br />

insurance, pension contributions, and associated indirect costs <strong>of</strong> a Senior Language Teaching Officer<br />

payable by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

4. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulation 3, <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied for<br />

<strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> language teaching in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Classics in such a manner as shall be approved by<br />

<strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

5. Any unexpended income in a financial year may be expended in accordance with Regulation 4<br />

in any one or more subsequent years.<br />

KATHLEEN MADGE SHORT CANCER FUND<br />

1. The sum bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Harold George Short, in memory <strong>of</strong> his wife Kathleen<br />

Madge Short, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Kathleen Madge Short Cancer Fund, <strong>the</strong> capital and <strong>the</strong><br />

income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used for <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> research in human cancer.<br />

2. The Fund shall be administered by <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Oncology, in consultation with<br />

<strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physic.<br />

NORMAN DOUGLAS SIMPSON MEMORIAL FUND<br />

1. The gift to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Dr William T. Stearn and Mr Patrick Brenan as Executors <strong>of</strong><br />

Norman Douglas Simpson, M.A., <strong>of</strong> Trinity College, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Norman Douglas<br />

Simpson Memorial Fund.<br />

2. The annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to purchase for <strong>the</strong> Norman Douglas Simpson<br />

Collection <strong>of</strong> publications on <strong>the</strong> plants <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> British Isles any books or pamphlets not already in that<br />

collection which record <strong>the</strong> occurrence or distribution <strong>of</strong> plants in <strong>the</strong> British Isles, particularly those<br />

relating to regions, counties, or some smaller areas. The books or pamphlets so purchased shall normally<br />

be ones published during <strong>the</strong> financial year. The acquisition <strong>of</strong> such a book or pamphlet through <strong>the</strong><br />

Fund shall be indicated by <strong>the</strong> insertion <strong>of</strong> a special book-plate or stamp.<br />

3. The balance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income in any financial year may be used for <strong>the</strong> repair and binding <strong>of</strong> books<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Collection.<br />

4. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Botany and <strong>the</strong> Curator <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Herbarium in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Plant Sciences.<br />

5. A report on expenditure from <strong>the</strong> Fund during <strong>the</strong> preceding financial year shall be sent by <strong>the</strong><br />

Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Botany to <strong>the</strong> Keeper <strong>of</strong> Botany, British Museum (Natural History) and to <strong>the</strong><br />

Keeper <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Herbarium, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.<br />
