876 TRUST EMOLUMENTS<br />
2. The administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be entrusted to seven Managers. The Managers shall be <strong>the</strong><br />
Vice-Chancellor and six o<strong>the</strong>r persons appointed, two by <strong>the</strong> Council, two by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong><br />
Law, and two by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> History. The Managers shall be appointed in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas<br />
Term to serve for four years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />
All <strong>the</strong> powers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers may be exercised by a majority <strong>of</strong> those present at a meeting duly<br />
summoned, provided that three Managers at least be present.<br />
3. The income arising from <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be paid annually to <strong>the</strong> Managers, who<br />
shall also be empowered to receive subscriptions in augmentation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
Out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> income thus accruing <strong>the</strong> Managers may at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion make grants to any person<br />
engaged in any research in <strong>the</strong> History <strong>of</strong> Law or <strong>of</strong> Legal Language or Institutions; or may make<br />
grants for <strong>the</strong> delivery <strong>of</strong> lectures, <strong>the</strong> publication <strong>of</strong> works, or <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> any o<strong>the</strong>r undertaking,<br />
connected with <strong>the</strong>se departments <strong>of</strong> study; and <strong>the</strong>y may attach to any grant such conditions as <strong>the</strong>y<br />
may think fit.<br />
4. The Managers shall be empowered to receive donations, subscriptions, and bequests for <strong>the</strong><br />
augmentation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
5. The accounts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers shall be audited annually and published with <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
Accounts.<br />
6. These regulations, except Regulation 1 and this regulation, shall be subject to alteration by Grace<br />
provided that <strong>the</strong> object <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, as defined in Regulation 1, be adhered to.<br />
7. Subject to <strong>the</strong> foregoing regulation, it shall be lawful for <strong>the</strong> Managers from time to time to make<br />
and (if <strong>the</strong>y see fit) to vary such by-laws as may seem to <strong>the</strong>m expedient for regulating <strong>the</strong>ir own<br />
proceedings and <strong>the</strong> administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund entrusted to <strong>the</strong>ir care.<br />

PEREGRINE MAITLAND STUDENTSHIP<br />

1. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Peregrine Maitland Fund, which is to be used to advance <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> subjects<br />
arising from or affecting <strong>the</strong> spread <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Christian Religion, <strong>the</strong> comparison <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Christian Religion<br />
with o<strong>the</strong>r religions, and <strong>the</strong> contact <strong>of</strong> Christian and o<strong>the</strong>r civilizations, shall be used to provide a<br />
Studentship in Comparative Religion, preference being given to candidates wishing to prepare <strong>the</strong>mselves<br />
for missionary work.<br />
2. The Studentship shall be <strong>of</strong>fered annually. The stipend <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall be such sum as<br />
<strong>the</strong> Electors shall determine in each case, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />
3. The Studentship shall be open to any graduate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> or to any person who is or is<br />
about to be registered as a Graduate Student in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
4. The Electors in each year shall be:<br />
(a) <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essors <strong>of</strong> Divinity;<br />
(b) one person appointed in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Divinity.<br />
5. Before <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lent Term each year <strong>the</strong> Electors shall publish a Notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> date by<br />
which, and <strong>the</strong> manner in which, applications are to be made. The election shall take place before <strong>the</strong><br />
end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Easter Term.<br />
6. It shall be <strong>the</strong> duty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Student to pursue a course <strong>of</strong> study approved by <strong>the</strong> Electors.<br />
7. The Studentship shall be payable by equal half-yearly payments (each payment to be made in<br />
advance), provided as regards <strong>the</strong> second payment that <strong>the</strong> Electors be satisfied that <strong>the</strong> Student is<br />
diligently carrying out <strong>the</strong> scheme <strong>of</strong> study approved by <strong>the</strong>m.<br />
8. The Electors shall for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> two preceding sections appoint one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir number to<br />
whom it shall be <strong>the</strong> duty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Student to report from time to time on <strong>the</strong> progress <strong>of</strong> his or her<br />
scheme <strong>of</strong> study.<br />
9. From unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund, <strong>the</strong> Electors may make grants to members<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in aid <strong>of</strong> research in <strong>the</strong> subjects specified in Regulation 1.<br />
MANAGEMENT STUDIES IN E NGINEERING FUND<br />
The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Management Studies in Engineering Fund shall be applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Engineering to fur<strong>the</strong>r teaching and research in <strong>the</strong> general area <strong>of</strong><br />
Management Studies within that Department.
