1004 TRUST EMOLUMENTS<br />

7. The tenure <strong>of</strong> a Scholarship shall be for one year from 1 October following <strong>the</strong> election, and<br />
shall be conditional upon <strong>the</strong> Scholar being or becoming a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>. A Scholar shall<br />
be eligible for re-election for a second year and again for a third year but for no longer.<br />
8. It shall be <strong>the</strong> duty <strong>of</strong> a Scholar, under <strong>the</strong> direction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Electors, to undertake study or research<br />
in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> relating to <strong>the</strong> Laws <strong>of</strong> England.<br />
9. The value <strong>of</strong> a Scholarship shall be such sum, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong><br />
Council, as <strong>the</strong> Electors may determine after taking into account any o<strong>the</strong>r financial resources that may<br />
be available to <strong>the</strong> Scholar.<br />
10. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be applied, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Electors, for <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Laws <strong>of</strong> England<br />
(a) in making grants to Wright Rogers Law Scholars and to o<strong>the</strong>r graduate students in <strong>the</strong> Faculty<br />
<strong>of</strong> Law who are in need <strong>of</strong> financial assistance;<br />
(b) in meeting expenses <strong>of</strong> legal research;<br />
(c) in such o<strong>the</strong>r manner as <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law may from time to time determine.<br />

YASUDA TRUST AND BANKING COMPANY FUND<br />
1. The benefaction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Yasuda Trust and Banking Company Limited, on <strong>the</strong> occasion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
fifteenth anniversary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> opening <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Company’s operations in London, shall form a fund for <strong>the</strong><br />
advancement <strong>of</strong> Japanese Studies in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Japanese Studies, <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department<br />
<strong>of</strong> East Asian Studies, and <strong>the</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong>ficers in Japanese in <strong>the</strong> Department.<br />
3. The capital and <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to provide postgraduate Scholarships and<br />
postdoctoral Fellowships in Japanese Studies tenable in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, and to make grants to meet<br />
expenses incurred or to be incurred by <strong>the</strong> holders <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se awards. Each year <strong>the</strong> Managers shall give<br />
public notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> competition for awards. Candidature shall not be restricted to members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>, but a person appointed to a Scholarship or a Fellowship shall become a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> before his or her tenure begins.<br />
4. The tenure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> awards shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> awards and <strong>of</strong><br />
any grants made in respect <strong>of</strong> expenses incurred or to be incurred by award holders shall be determined<br />
by <strong>the</strong> Managers within ranges approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />
5. The Managers shall seek to make at least one appointment <strong>of</strong> a Scholar or a Fellow in each year<br />
during <strong>the</strong> currency <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, and shall seek to expend <strong>the</strong> capital and <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund<br />
during such period.<br />
6. Any surplus income or capital may be applied by <strong>the</strong> Managers, with <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council,<br />
for <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> Japanese Studies in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

GHULAM YAZDANI ESSAY PRIZE FUND<br />
1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £1,000 donated to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Mrs G. Yazdani shall form a fund to be called<br />
<strong>the</strong> Ghulam Yazdani Essay Prize Fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> awarding<br />
a Ghulam Yazdani Essay Prize for Ancient Deccan History and Archaeology.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be three persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Asian and<br />
Middle Eastern Studies in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for three years from 1 January following<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />
3. The Managers shall award <strong>the</strong> Prize for <strong>the</strong> best essay submitted by any member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
in statu pupillari on a topic approved by <strong>the</strong> Managers in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> Ancient Deccan history and<br />
archaeology. The Managers shall publish a Notice annually <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> manner in which and <strong>the</strong> dates by<br />
which topics shall be proposed and essays submitted.<br />
4. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.
