GERMAN ENDOWMENT FUND<br />
1. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> German Endowment Fund shall be used to support German studies in <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> German and Dutch and three<br />
o<strong>the</strong>r persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Modern and Medieval Languages in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas<br />
Term to serve for four years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />
3. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund in each year shall be to contribute towards <strong>the</strong> stipend<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Schröder Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> German.<br />
4. In any year any unexpended income shall be applied for <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> German studies in <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> in a manner to be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers. It shall be open to <strong>the</strong> Managers to add <strong>the</strong><br />
unexpended income to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

1. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Arnold Gerstenberg Fund shall be applied to maintaining one or more Arnold<br />
Gerstenberg Studentships.<br />
2. There shall be a Board <strong>of</strong> Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, consisting <strong>of</strong> six persons appointed in <strong>the</strong><br />
Michaelmas Term, two by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Philosophy, two by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> History and Philosophy<br />
<strong>of</strong> Science, one by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Physics and Chemistry, and one by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong><br />
Biology, to serve for six years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />
3. A Studentship shall be open to any person who is or is about to become a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> in statu pupillari or a registered Graduate Student, provided that he or she has successfully<br />
completed a course <strong>of</strong> study in Natural Science at this or ano<strong>the</strong>r university. All candidates shall<br />
declare <strong>the</strong>ir intention, if elected, <strong>of</strong> pursuing a course <strong>of</strong> philosophical study in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> to be<br />
approved by <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />
4. The date by which and <strong>the</strong> manner in which applications for Studentships shall be made shall be<br />
determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers. The Managers shall give not less than three months’ notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
intention to proceed to an election. In such notice <strong>the</strong>y shall indicate <strong>the</strong> date by which applications<br />
shall be submitted. The Managers shall take such steps as <strong>the</strong>y may think fit to assess <strong>the</strong> capacities<br />
<strong>of</strong> candidates for <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> philosophy.<br />
5. A Studentship shall be tenable for one academical year and unless o<strong>the</strong>rwise determined by <strong>the</strong><br />
Managers shall be tenable for <strong>the</strong> academical year next after <strong>the</strong> election <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Student. A Studentship<br />
may be extended by <strong>the</strong> Managers for a second or third academical year, provided that <strong>the</strong> Managers<br />
are satisfied with <strong>the</strong> Student’s progress in philosophical study in <strong>the</strong> previous academical year.<br />
6. A Student shall receive such emolument, within a range determined from time to time by <strong>the</strong><br />
Council, as <strong>the</strong> Managers shall determine in each case after taking account <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Student’s financial<br />
circumstances. If <strong>the</strong> tenure <strong>of</strong> a Studentship is extended beyond one year, <strong>the</strong> value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> emolument<br />
shall be reassessed each year. The Managers may for good cause delay, reduce, or withhold payment<br />
to a Student, and may for good cause deprive a Student <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Studentship.<br />

ORLANDO GIBBONS FUND<br />
1. By Grace 14 <strong>of</strong> 3 February 1910 <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> converted <strong>the</strong> sum raised by subscribers to <strong>the</strong><br />
Orlando Gibbons Memorial into <strong>the</strong> Orlando Gibbons Fund.<br />
2. In accordance with <strong>the</strong> desire <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> subscribers, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be paid annually<br />
to <strong>the</strong> Fitzwilliam Museum Syndicate to be laid out by <strong>the</strong>m in increasing <strong>the</strong>ir collection <strong>of</strong> music,<br />
each book so bought to be distinguished by having <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Orlando Gibbons stamped upon it or<br />
in it in such a way as <strong>the</strong> Syndicate may decide to be most suitable.<br />

GIBSON SPANISH SCHOLARSHIP<br />
1. The amount <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> benefaction <strong>of</strong> Mrs Gibson for <strong>the</strong> endowment <strong>of</strong> a Scholarship in Spanish<br />
Literature, toge<strong>the</strong>r with any additional funds which may be available, shall form a fund to be called<br />
<strong>the</strong> Gibson Spanish Scholarship Fund.<br />
