<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> German language by members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> pursuing or intending to pursue in<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> a course <strong>of</strong> study or research in Divinity approved by <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

AUSTIN D OBSON FUND<br />

1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £700, <strong>the</strong> bequest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Mrs M. E. Dobson in memory <strong>of</strong> her fa<strong>the</strong>r Mr Austin<br />

Dobson, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Austin Dobson Fund, <strong>the</strong> income from which shall be used to<br />

provide annually an Austin Dobson Prize for pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> English literature.<br />

2. The Prize shall be awarded after account has been taken particularly <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> extent to which work<br />

submitted for <strong>the</strong> Prize is distinguished by literary style and ability to appreciate <strong>the</strong> elements <strong>of</strong><br />

excellence in good literature.<br />

3. The Prize shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> English Tripos for a distinguished<br />

performance in that examination in <strong>the</strong> papers on Practical Criticism and on Tragedy and in <strong>the</strong><br />

dissertation that all candidates for <strong>the</strong> examination are required to <strong>of</strong>fer.<br />

4. If candidates <strong>of</strong> sufficient merit present <strong>the</strong>mselves, it shall be open to <strong>the</strong> Examiners to award<br />

one or more additional Austin Dobson Prizes.<br />

5. The value <strong>of</strong> an Austin Dobson Prize shall be such sum as may be determined by <strong>the</strong> awarders<br />

within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council, provided that (a) if two or more Prizes are<br />

awarded <strong>the</strong>y shall be <strong>of</strong> equal value, and (b) <strong>the</strong> combined value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prizes awarded in any year<br />

shall not exceed <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

6. Any unexpended income shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

7. These regulations, o<strong>the</strong>r than Regulations 1 and 2 and this regulation, shall be subject to alteration<br />

by Grace, always provided that <strong>the</strong> main object <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund as described in Regulations 1 and 2 shall<br />

be adhered to.<br />

DENIS DOOLEY PRIZE IN CLINICAL ANATOMY<br />

1. The gift <strong>of</strong> Denis Dooley, FRCS, Her Majesty’s Inspector <strong>of</strong> Anatomy, shall form a fund to be<br />

called <strong>the</strong> Clinical Anatomy Fund, for <strong>the</strong> encouragement <strong>of</strong> study and research in Clinical Anatomy.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used to provide a Denis Dooley Prize in Clinical Anatomy to<br />

be awarded annually for an essay on a subject in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> Clinical Anatomy. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize<br />

shall be <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund for <strong>the</strong> financial year in which <strong>the</strong> award is made.<br />

3. The Prize shall be open to any person who is pursuing or has pursued a course <strong>of</strong> clinical study<br />

in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> for <strong>the</strong> degrees <strong>of</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Medicine and Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Surgery, provided that no<br />

one shall be eligible for <strong>the</strong> Prize if, on <strong>the</strong> date by which entries are to be submitted, more than five<br />

years have elapsed since he or she passed <strong>the</strong> Final M.B. Examination.<br />

4. In <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term <strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physic and <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Anatomy shall give<br />

notice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> date by which and <strong>the</strong> manner in which candidates shall submit <strong>the</strong>ir entries for <strong>the</strong> Prize,<br />

and <strong>of</strong> any requirements relating to <strong>the</strong> subject, form, and length <strong>of</strong> an essay to be submitted for <strong>the</strong><br />

Prize.<br />

5. The Prize shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physic and <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Anatomy (or<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir deputies) who may at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion examine a candidate viva voce.<br />

6. The Prize may be awarded for an essay submitted jointly by two candidates. In comparing <strong>the</strong><br />

merits <strong>of</strong> combined and independent work, <strong>the</strong> Adjudicators shall expect an appreciably higher standard<br />

for <strong>the</strong> former. In <strong>the</strong> case <strong>of</strong> an award made for a joint essay, <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be divided equally<br />

between <strong>the</strong> co-authors.<br />

ANTHONY D ORRELL PRIZE<br />

1. The gift to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Dr Jana Howlett, <strong>of</strong> Jesus College, <strong>University</strong> Lecturer in <strong>the</strong><br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Slavonic Studies, in memory <strong>of</strong> her fa<strong>the</strong>r Anthony Dorrell shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong><br />

Anthony Dorrell Fund.<br />

2. There shall be a prize, called <strong>the</strong> Anthony Dorrell Prize, which shall be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong><br />

Examiners for Part IA <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos for an outstanding performance<br />

in Russian in that examination.<br />

3. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
