Tim Whitmore Zoology Fund<br />

1. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tim Whitmore Zoology Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Zoology and two <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Zoology who shall be appointed by<br />

<strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for two years from 1 January following<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers to support <strong>the</strong> training<br />

<strong>of</strong> Graduate Students in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Zoology, particularly those from developing countries,<br />

working in conservation science or in <strong>the</strong> sustainable use <strong>of</strong> biological resources.<br />

3. Any unexpended income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund in a financial year shall be accumulated for use as income<br />

in future years.<br />

H. B. AND DOROTHY A. WHITTINGTON FUND<br />

1. The capital sum given to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Harry Blackmore Whittington, Emeritus<br />

Woodwardian Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Geology in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> H. B. and Dorothy<br />

A. Whittington Fund, which shall be used for <strong>the</strong> promotion and encouragement <strong>of</strong> palaeontology in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Earth Sciences.<br />

2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Woodwardian Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Geology, <strong>the</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Sedgwick Museum <strong>of</strong> Earth Sciences, and one or two persons pursuing palaeontological research in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Earth Sciences appointed from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department.<br />

3. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied<br />

(a) to support, by way <strong>of</strong> grants, graduate and postdoctoral students engaged in palaeontological<br />

research in <strong>the</strong> Department;<br />

(b) provided that <strong>the</strong> accumulated income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund becomes sufficient, to support a graduate<br />

student undertaking advanced study or research in palaeontology in <strong>the</strong> Department by means <strong>of</strong><br />

a Harry and Dorothy Whittington Studentship. The Managers shall publish a Notice inviting<br />

applications for <strong>the</strong> Studentship which shall provide:<br />

(i) a maintenance payment to be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers,<br />

(ii) a payment to meet <strong>the</strong> student’s <strong>University</strong> and College fees.<br />

4. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulation 3, any remaining income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Fund shall be applied, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers, to support o<strong>the</strong>r persons engaged in<br />

palaeontological research in <strong>the</strong> Department, or persons visiting <strong>the</strong> Department for periods <strong>of</strong> less<br />

than six months who wish to pursue a specific piece <strong>of</strong> palaeontological research that will have at least<br />

some involvement with collections <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sedgwick Museum.<br />

5. Any unexpended income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund in a financial year may be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Fund or accumulated for use as income in future years, as <strong>the</strong> Managers shall determine.<br />

6. The Fund shall not be available for stipends, nor may it be used for expenditure connected with<br />

<strong>the</strong> Sedgwick Museum o<strong>the</strong>r than as specified in Regulations 3 and 4.<br />

WHITTLE LAB STUDENTSHIP FUND<br />

1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £410,000 received by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, via <strong>Cambridge</strong> <strong>University</strong> Technical Services<br />

Ltd, from <strong>the</strong> sale <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tware created by Pr<strong>of</strong>essor J. D. Denton, FREng, FRS, formerly Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong><br />

Turbomachinery Aerodynamics, Fellow <strong>of</strong> Trinity Hall, shall form a fund, entitled <strong>the</strong> Whittle Lab<br />

Studentship Fund, for <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong> postgraduate students working at <strong>the</strong> Whittle Laboratory in <strong>the</strong><br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Engineering.<br />

2. Any fur<strong>the</strong>r income received by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> from <strong>the</strong> sale <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Denton’s s<strong>of</strong>tware shall<br />

be added to <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

3. The capital and income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used for <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> a studentship to be called<br />

<strong>the</strong> Whittle Lab Studentship.<br />

4. The Electors to <strong>the</strong> Studentship shall normally be all <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong>ficers at <strong>the</strong><br />

Whittle Laboratory.<br />

5. In order to be eligible for <strong>the</strong> Studentship a candidate must have been admitted or be seeking<br />

admission as a registered Graduate Student in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> and normally with <strong>the</strong> intention <strong>of</strong> being<br />

based at <strong>the</strong> Whittle Laboratory.<br />
