ALAN COULSON PRIZE<br />
1. The sum <strong>of</strong> $10,000 received from Dr A. S. Coulson shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Alan Coulson<br />
Fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used to provide a prize called <strong>the</strong> Alan Coulson Prize in <strong>the</strong> history<br />
<strong>of</strong> British imperial expansion.<br />
2. The Prize shall be awarded each year by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Historical Tripos to <strong>the</strong><br />
candidate who in that examination has submitted <strong>the</strong> best dissertation on a topic in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> British<br />
imperial expansion (including North American history before 1776), which shall be understood to<br />
cover such subjects as <strong>the</strong> discovery, conquest, settlement, and development <strong>of</strong> individual colonies, <strong>the</strong><br />
motivation and philosophy <strong>of</strong> emigrants and colonists, and <strong>the</strong> role <strong>of</strong> public opinion in imperial<br />
expansion and development.<br />
3. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund. If in any year <strong>the</strong> Prize is not<br />
awarded, <strong>the</strong> unexpended income for that year shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

F. R. COWPER REED TRAVELLING GRANTS<br />
1. The sums given and bequea<strong>the</strong>d by Mrs Cowper Reed shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> F. R. Cowper<br />
Reed Fund, <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> which shall be to provide travelling grants for <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> research<br />
in palaeontology.<br />
2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Earth Sciences, and two<br />
members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Earth Sciences and Geography one <strong>of</strong> whom shall be appointed by <strong>the</strong><br />
Board <strong>of</strong> that Faculty in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term <strong>of</strong> each year to serve for two years from 1 January<br />
next following.<br />
3. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied from time to time, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers,<br />
and subject to such conditions as <strong>the</strong>y may think fit, for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> providing travelling grants to<br />
members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> who desire to carry out research in palaeontology.<br />

1. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Craig Taylor Fund shall be used to provide one or more annual prizes, to be<br />
called <strong>the</strong> Craig Taylor Prizes, which shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Examiners for Part IA, Part<br />
IB, or Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Philosophy Tripos to <strong>the</strong> candidates who have shown <strong>the</strong> greatest distinction in<br />
any Part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Philosophy Tripos, or in any component <strong>of</strong> any Part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tripos as <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board<br />
<strong>of</strong> Philosophy shall from time to time specify.<br />
2. It shall be open to <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Philosophy to specify more than one area in which a<br />
Craig Taylor Prize may be awarded in any given year.<br />
3. In any year that a Prize is not awarded <strong>the</strong> income for that year shall be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to <strong>the</strong><br />
capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund or accumulated for use as income in future years, as <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Philosophy<br />
may determine.<br />

1. The Distributors <strong>of</strong> Crane’s Charity for <strong>the</strong> relief <strong>of</strong> poor sick scholars shall be: <strong>the</strong> Vice-<br />
Chancellor, <strong>the</strong> Master <strong>of</strong> Gonville and Caius College, <strong>the</strong> Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essors <strong>of</strong> Divinity, Civil Law,<br />
and Physic, and <strong>the</strong> Chief Apo<strong>the</strong>cary.<br />
2. The Chief Apo<strong>the</strong>cary shall be elected by <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Distributors before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas<br />
Term to serve for five years from 1 January next following.
