NORA CHADWICK FUND<br />

1. The sum bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Mrs Nora Chadwick shall form a fund to be called <strong>the</strong><br />

Nora Chadwick Fund.<br />

2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used, subject to <strong>the</strong> establishment by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> a<br />

particular <strong>of</strong>fice for <strong>the</strong> purpose, to provide part or <strong>the</strong> whole <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> a Readership, to be known<br />

as <strong>the</strong> Nora Chadwick Readership in Celtic Studies, or <strong>of</strong> such <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice assigned to <strong>the</strong><br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic, o<strong>the</strong>r than a Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship or Readership, as <strong>the</strong> General<br />

Board, on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> English, may determine; provided that <strong>the</strong><br />

duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> holder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice shall consist mainly <strong>of</strong> teaching and research in Celtic studies.<br />

AVIK CHAKRAVARTY MEMORIAL FUND FOR PHYSICS<br />

Grace 2 <strong>of</strong> 6 January 2010<br />

1. The sum given to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Mr Satyendra and Mrs Chhaya Chakravarty in memory <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>ir son, Avik Chakravarty, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Avik Chakravarty Memorial Fund for Physics.<br />

The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> supporting postgraduate students at <strong>the</strong><br />

Cavendish Laboratory (Department <strong>of</strong> Physics) researching in one or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> areas <strong>of</strong> luminescence<br />

phenomena, cavitation, control <strong>of</strong> friction between moving surfaces, explosive initiation and nanoscience,<br />

or in o<strong>the</strong>r new innovative projects.<br />

2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Physics and <strong>the</strong> Academic<br />

Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Physics.<br />

3. Any unexpended income in a financial year may be expended in accordance with Regulation 1<br />

in any one or more subsequent years.<br />

CHAMBER MUSIC FUND<br />

1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £10,000, <strong>the</strong> gift <strong>of</strong> an anonymous donor, for <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> an instrumental<br />

ensemble in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> to give chamber music concerts shall form a fund to be called <strong>the</strong> Chamber<br />

Music Fund.<br />

2. The capital and income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be at <strong>the</strong> disposal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers, who shall be <strong>the</strong><br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Music and two persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Music to serve for periods <strong>of</strong><br />

two years at a time.<br />

3. The Managers shall be empowered to determine <strong>the</strong> remuneration and conditions <strong>of</strong> employment<br />

<strong>of</strong> musicians engaged as members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> instrumental ensemble, and to make all arrangements for <strong>the</strong><br />

concerts subject to <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board.<br />

GRACE AND THOMAS C. H. CHAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND<br />

1. The sums received from Mr and Mrs Thomas C. H. Chan shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Grace and<br />

Thomas C. H. Chan Scholarship Fund. The capital and income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, toge<strong>the</strong>r with o<strong>the</strong>r sums<br />

made available for <strong>the</strong> same purpose, shall be used for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> providing scholarships for Ph.D.<br />

students starting doctoral research in any subject within <strong>the</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Arts and Humanities or <strong>the</strong><br />

School <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Humanities and Social Sciences. Eligible students shall be resident or domiciled in <strong>the</strong><br />

People’s Republic <strong>of</strong> China. Priority shall be given to applicants from provinces or regions o<strong>the</strong>r than<br />

<strong>the</strong> Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.<br />

2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be (a) <strong>the</strong> Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Arts and<br />

Humanities, or her or his nominee, (b) <strong>the</strong> Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> School <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Humanities<br />

and Social Sciences, or her or his nominee, and (c) <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Graduate Studies.<br />

3. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> scholarships, called ‘Grace and Thomas<br />

C. H. Chan Scholarships’, for students from <strong>the</strong> People’s Republic <strong>of</strong> China who are intending to<br />

undertake postgraduate study leading to a Ph.D. Degree <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in any subject within <strong>the</strong><br />

School <strong>of</strong> Arts and Humanities or <strong>the</strong> School <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Humanities and Social Sciences. Provided that<br />
