PROFESSOR DAME ELIZABETH HILL FUND<br />

1. The sum given to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Dame Elizabeth Hill, <strong>of</strong> Girton College, Emeritus Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

<strong>of</strong> Slavonic Studies, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Dame Elizabeth Hill Fund for Postdoctoral<br />

Research, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used for <strong>the</strong> encouragement <strong>of</strong> advanced study and research<br />

in Slavonic Studies.<br />

2. The Fund shall be administered by five Managers, who shall be:<br />

(a) <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Slavonic Studies;<br />

(b) four persons appointed in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for four years from 1 January following<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir appointment, one being appointed by each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following bodies: <strong>the</strong> Faculty Boards <strong>of</strong><br />

Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, History, and Modern and Medieval Languages, and <strong>the</strong> Board<br />

<strong>of</strong> History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science.<br />

3. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be used by <strong>the</strong> Managers to make grants for <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> advanced<br />

study or research in Slavonic Studies relating to <strong>the</strong> period before AD 1700, preference being given to<br />

persons intending to undertake a substantial project in any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following fields: palaeography;<br />

medieval hagiography or o<strong>the</strong>r literature; medieval art; <strong>the</strong> monastic tradition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Orthodox Church;<br />

<strong>the</strong> biographical study <strong>of</strong> medieval Slav contributors to geography, historiography, or <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong><br />

science. Grants may be made to <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers or o<strong>the</strong>r persons employed by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> and<br />

to Fellows <strong>of</strong> Colleges in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

4. A notice inviting applications for grants shall be published from time to time at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

5. A recipient <strong>of</strong> a grant from <strong>the</strong> Fund shall deposit in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library a report on <strong>the</strong> work<br />

undertaken with <strong>the</strong> help <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> grant and a copy <strong>of</strong> any publication resulting from it.<br />

6. Any unexpended income in a financial year may be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund or<br />

accumulated for use as income in a future year, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />

MARTIN HINDS TRAVEL FUND<br />

1. The benefaction <strong>of</strong> Mrs Pamela Hinds, Dr Patricia Crone, and o<strong>the</strong>rs, in memory <strong>of</strong> George<br />

Martin Hinds, Fellow <strong>of</strong> Trinity Hall and <strong>University</strong> Lecturer in Arabic, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong><br />

Martin Hinds Travel Fund <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used for <strong>the</strong> encouragement <strong>of</strong> study and<br />

research in Middle Eastern Studies.<br />

2. The Fund shall be managed by <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Middle Eastern Studies in<br />

consultation with and with <strong>the</strong> agreement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong>ficers in <strong>the</strong> Department.<br />

3. From <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund <strong>the</strong> Managers may make grants or loans to assist registered Graduate<br />

Students and o<strong>the</strong>r members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> in statu pupillari with <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> travel to, and residence<br />

in, <strong>the</strong> Islamic Middle East and North Africa, in order to permit <strong>the</strong>m to pursue <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

languages, culture, or history <strong>of</strong> those areas.<br />

HISTORY PROFESSORSHIP FUND<br />

Grace 7 <strong>of</strong> 2 December 2009<br />

1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £1m received from Trinity College to support a Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong><br />

History, toge<strong>the</strong>r with o<strong>the</strong>r sums donated for <strong>the</strong> same purpose, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> History<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship Fund.<br />

2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> History, who may delegate any or all<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir functions under <strong>the</strong>se regulations to a committee not necessarily consisting wholly <strong>of</strong> members<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />

3. The first charge on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> stipend, national insurance, pension<br />

contributions, and associated indirect costs payable by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> holder <strong>of</strong> a Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship<br />

in <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> History designated by <strong>the</strong> General Board on <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board<br />

<strong>of</strong> History.<br />
