ARBERRY FUND<br />

1. The sum given to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by Mrs Sarina Arberry in memory <strong>of</strong> her late husband, Arthur<br />

John Arberry, Sir Thomas Adams’s Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Arabic from 1947 to 1969, shall form a fund called<br />

<strong>the</strong> Arberry Fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used to foster an interest in Arabic and Persian studies<br />

in English-speaking parts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Commonwealth by means <strong>of</strong> a scholarship to be called <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

A. J. Arberry Travelling Scholarship, which shall be used for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> assisting students to visit<br />

an Arabic-speaking or Persian-speaking country.<br />

2. The Scholarship shall be restricted to students whose mo<strong>the</strong>r-tongue is English and who are<br />

citizens <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Commonwealth <strong>of</strong> Nations.<br />

3. The Awarders <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholarship shall be <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Middle Eastern Studies<br />

in consultation with and with <strong>the</strong> agreement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong>ficers in <strong>the</strong> Department.<br />

4. The Scholarship shall be awarded to a student who has shown distinction in Arabic or in Persian<br />

or in Arabic and Persian in any Part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Tripos, preference being<br />

given to a student who has shown distinction in both subjects.<br />

5. The Scholarship shall be awarded in 1973 and <strong>the</strong>reafter at intervals <strong>of</strong> not less than three years<br />

whenever a suitable candidate applies.<br />

6. A suitably qualified student who wishes to apply for <strong>the</strong> Scholarship shall send an application,<br />

toge<strong>the</strong>r with details <strong>of</strong> his or her performance in <strong>the</strong> Tripos and a short description <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> proposed<br />

travel, to <strong>the</strong> Registrary so as to arrive not later than <strong>the</strong> first day <strong>of</strong> General Admission to Degrees.<br />

7. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholarship shall be such sum not less than three years’ income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund as<br />

<strong>the</strong> Awarders may determine at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> award.<br />

8. The award shall be made not later than four weeks after <strong>the</strong> first day <strong>of</strong> General Admission to<br />

Degrees.<br />

9. The Scholar shall send a short report on his or her travel to <strong>the</strong> Awarders so as to reach <strong>the</strong>m<br />

not later than <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> term next following <strong>the</strong> term or vacation in which <strong>the</strong> travel is<br />

completed.<br />

DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE DESIGN T EACHING FUND<br />

Grace 2 <strong>of</strong> 5 November 2008<br />

1. The moneys donated and covenanted in response to <strong>the</strong> appeal held by <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Architecture shall form a fund to be called <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Architecture Design Teaching Fund, <strong>the</strong><br />

income and that portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> capital that has not been specified as being permanent capital, shall be<br />

used to support <strong>the</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong> architectural design in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Architecture.<br />

2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Architecture and two o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Architecture and History <strong>of</strong> Art for<br />

periods <strong>of</strong> four years at a time.<br />

3. Any unexpended income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund in a financial year may be ei<strong>the</strong>r added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Fund or accumulated for use as income in future years, as <strong>the</strong> Managers may determine.<br />

4. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulation 1, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be<br />

applied from time to time, at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers, to assist in any o<strong>the</strong>r way <strong>the</strong> promotion<br />

and encouragement <strong>of</strong> teaching in architectural design in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

ARMOURERS AND BRASIERS PRIZES AND MEDAL<br />

1. The sum made available annually by <strong>the</strong> Armourers and Brasiers’ Company shall be used to<br />

provide two prizes called <strong>the</strong> Armourers and Brasiers Prizes.<br />

2. The Prizes shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for <strong>the</strong> subject Materials Science and Metallurgy<br />

in <strong>the</strong> Natural Sciences Tripos, one by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for that subject in Part II for a distinguished<br />

performance in that examination and one by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for that subject in Part III for a distinguished<br />

performance in that examination.<br />

3. The winner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize for Part III shall also be awarded a medal provided by <strong>the</strong> Armourers<br />

and Brasiers’ Company.<br />
