4. In any year in which <strong>the</strong> Prize is not awarded <strong>the</strong> income for that year shall be added to <strong>the</strong><br />

R. A. NICHOLSON FUND<br />

1. The R. A. Nicholson Prize shall be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> Examiners appointed to examine in<br />

Arabic and Persian in Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Tripos for distinguished work<br />

in that examination in Arabic and Persian, or in one <strong>of</strong> those languages, preference being given to a<br />

candidate who has achieved distinction in both languages.<br />

2. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be determined by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Asian and Middle Eastern<br />

Studies, within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />

3. Any unexpended income accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund may be used by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Asian<br />

and Middle Eastern Studies for purposes connected with <strong>the</strong> advancement <strong>of</strong> study or research in <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> in Arabic or Persian, or in both those languages.<br />

RALPH NOBLE PRIZES<br />

1. The gift <strong>of</strong> Mrs Ralph Noble and her family, in memory <strong>of</strong> her husband Ralph A<strong>the</strong>lstane Noble,<br />

<strong>of</strong> King’s College, shall form a fund called <strong>the</strong> Ralph Noble Fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used<br />

to provide three Ralph Noble Prizes each year.<br />

2. The Prizes shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> M.D. Committee for M.D. dissertations as follows:<br />

(a) one or more Prizes may be awarded for a dissertation in any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following fields: psychiatry,<br />

psychological medicine, neurology;<br />

(b) one or more Prizes may be awarded for a dissertation on a subject <strong>of</strong> a clinical nature, preference<br />

being given to a subject in psychological medicine.<br />

3. The value <strong>of</strong> each Prize shall be one-third <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

4. If in any year fewer than three Prizes are awarded, <strong>the</strong> unexpended income shall be added to <strong>the</strong><br />

capital <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

A. D. NOCK FUND<br />

The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund derived from <strong>the</strong> bequest <strong>of</strong> Arthur Darby Nock, M.A., Fellow <strong>of</strong> Clare<br />

College, 1923–30, <strong>University</strong> Lecturer in Classics, 1926–30, and Frothingham Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> History<br />

<strong>of</strong> Religion at Harvard <strong>University</strong> from 1930 until his death on 11 January 1963, accepted by <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> in 1963 and announced in <strong>the</strong> Reporter on 24 July 1963, now known as <strong>the</strong> A. D. Nock<br />

Fund, shall be applied at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Library Syndicate for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> buying new or<br />

recent foreign books for <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Library.<br />

RICHARD NORMAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND<br />

Grace 1 <strong>of</strong> 2 March 2011<br />

1. The sums received from Mrs D. Norman in memory <strong>of</strong> her husband Richard Norman, formerly<br />

<strong>of</strong> King’s College, shall form a fund for <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong> postgraduate students in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Engineering undertaking research in electrical engineering.<br />

2. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Engineering (who shall be<br />

Chairman), <strong>the</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Electrical Engineering, and one person appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong><br />

Engineering in <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term to serve for four years from 1 January following her or his<br />

appointment.<br />

3. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, and such portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> capital as <strong>the</strong>y shall determine, shall be applied<br />

at <strong>the</strong> discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers to provide one or more Richard Norman Scholarships in Electrical<br />

Engineering for persons who are, or are about to be, registered for <strong>the</strong> Ph.D. Degree in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong><br />

electrical engineering in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Engineering.<br />

4. A Scholarship may provide<br />

(a) a maintenance payment to be determined by <strong>the</strong> Managers,<br />

(b) a payment to meet any <strong>University</strong> and/or College fees payable by <strong>the</strong> Scholar,<br />
