5. If in any year <strong>the</strong> Prize is not awarded, <strong>the</strong> income shall be accumulated in <strong>the</strong> Fund and may<br />

be used from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Managers to make grants for <strong>the</strong> general advancement <strong>of</strong> Indian<br />

archaeology.<br />

YORKE PRIZES<br />

1. One or more Yorke Prizes shall be <strong>of</strong>fered annually for an essay on a legal subject (including<br />

<strong>the</strong> history, analysis, administration, and reform <strong>of</strong> law).<br />

2. The Prizes shall be open to any graduate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> or any person who is or has been<br />

registered as a Graduate Student in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, provided that at <strong>the</strong> date by which essays are to be<br />

submitted<br />

(a) if <strong>the</strong> candidate has been approved by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Graduate Studies for <strong>the</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> Ph.D. or<br />

M.Litt. under <strong>the</strong> regulations for <strong>the</strong> Ph.D., M.Sc., and M.Litt. Degrees, not more than four years<br />

have passed after <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> such approval;<br />

(b) if <strong>the</strong> candidate has not been so approved, not more than ten years have passed after <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong><br />

his or her admission to a first degree, whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> this or ano<strong>the</strong>r university.<br />

3. Each candidate shall obtain <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law for <strong>the</strong> proposed subject<br />

<strong>of</strong> his or her essay.<br />

4. Essays shall be submitted to <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law so as to arrive not later<br />

than <strong>the</strong> last day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Michaelmas Term. Each essay shall be printed or typewritten, shall be presented<br />

in bound form, and shall be <strong>of</strong> not less than 30,000 words nor more than 100,000 words in length;<br />

provided that <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board may remit any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se requirements on application by a candidate.<br />

5. The Board shall have power to refer each essay to one or more referees for report. Each referee<br />

shall receive such fee as <strong>the</strong> Board shall determine within a range approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong><br />

Council.<br />

6. The Board shall determine <strong>the</strong> awards and <strong>the</strong>ir decision shall be final.<br />

7. The Board shall have power:<br />

(a) to award one or more Yorke Prizes, each <strong>of</strong> such value as <strong>the</strong>y shall determine within a range<br />

approved from time to time by <strong>the</strong> Council;<br />

(b) to make awards to candidates whose essays, although meritorious, have not gained <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong><br />

a Yorke Prize;<br />

(c) to make grants to assist an author to publish his or her Yorke Prize essay.<br />

8. A successful candidate shall deposit one copy <strong>of</strong> his or her essay in <strong>the</strong> Squire Law Library.<br />

9. The Prize shall be paid as soon as <strong>the</strong> copy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> essay has been deposited in accordance with<br />

Regulation 8.<br />

10. The Board shall also have power:<br />

(a) to award Studentships or Scholarships or make grants to any persons engaged in research in law;<br />

(b) to make grants for <strong>the</strong> delivery <strong>of</strong> lectures;<br />

(c) to make grants for <strong>the</strong> publication <strong>of</strong> works (in addition to assisting <strong>the</strong> author to publish a Prize<br />

essay under Regulation 7(c));<br />

(d) to make grants for <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> any o<strong>the</strong>r undertaking connected with <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> law;<br />

and to attach to <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> any such Studentship, Scholarship, or grant such conditions as <strong>the</strong>y may<br />

think fit.<br />

11. There shall be charged on <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, or on any accumulation <strong>of</strong> unexpended<br />

income, any amounts payable under Regulations 5, 7, and 10.<br />

12. The Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Law may delegate any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir functions concerning <strong>the</strong> Yorke Prizes and<br />

Fund to a Committee not necessarily consisting wholly <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board.<br />

OLGA YOUHOTSKY,CATHERINE MATTHEWS, AND IRENE GORE FUND AND PRIZE<br />

1. The gift to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Mrs Ca<strong>the</strong>rine Mat<strong>the</strong>ws and Dr Irene Gore in memory <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

mo<strong>the</strong>r Mrs Olga Youhotsky, and <strong>the</strong> gift <strong>of</strong> Dr Gore in memory <strong>of</strong> Mrs Mat<strong>the</strong>ws, shall form a fund<br />

called <strong>the</strong> Olga Youhotsky, Ca<strong>the</strong>rine Mat<strong>the</strong>ws, and Irene Gore Fund.<br />

2. There shall be a prize, called <strong>the</strong> Olga Youhotsky, Ca<strong>the</strong>rine Mat<strong>the</strong>ws, and Irene Gore Prize,<br />

which shall be awarded annually by <strong>the</strong> Examiners for Part II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Modern and Medieval Languages<br />

Tripos for an outstanding performance in Russian in that examination.<br />

3. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
