income.<br />
2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund, and that portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> capital that has not been specified as permanent<br />
capital by <strong>the</strong> donor or donors, shall be applied only to provide one or more bursaries, to be called<br />
Manmohan Singh Bursaries, for persons only <strong>of</strong> Indian citizenship who demonstrate financial need in<br />
order that <strong>the</strong>y may follow courses leading to a degree or o<strong>the</strong>r qualification <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
3. A person who is not already a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> shall become such by being matriculated<br />
before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> term next after her or his receipt <strong>of</strong> a Bursary provided that for good cause <strong>the</strong><br />
Managers may allow a recipient to defer matriculation until a later date.<br />
4. The Fund shall be administered by four Managers who shall be:<br />
(a) <strong>the</strong> Vice-Chancellor, or a duly appointed deputy, as Chairman;<br />
(b) three persons appointed by <strong>the</strong> Council.<br />
Managers in class (b) shall serve for three years from 1 October following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment.<br />
5. Any unexpended income, in any one year, may be retained and used as income in subsequent<br />
years.<br />
SISMEY FUND<br />
The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sismey Fund shall be at <strong>the</strong> disposal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine<br />
for <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> prizes in connection with <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine under such conditions<br />
as <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board may from time to time determine.<br />

1. The sum <strong>of</strong> £12,800 received from Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Quentin Skinner, FBA, Regius Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Modern<br />
History Emeritus, shall form a fund, <strong>the</strong> income <strong>of</strong> which shall be used to provide a prize called <strong>the</strong><br />
Quentin Skinner Prize in History.<br />
2. The Prize shall be awarded by <strong>the</strong> relevant Sub-Committee <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Degree Committee <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Faculty <strong>of</strong> History for <strong>the</strong> best performance in <strong>the</strong> examination in Political Thought and Intellectual<br />
History for <strong>the</strong> M.Phil. Degree.<br />
3. The value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prize shall be <strong>the</strong> annual income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />
4. If in any year <strong>the</strong> Prize is not awarded, <strong>the</strong> income for that year shall be added to <strong>the</strong> capital <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Fund.<br />

CHARLES SLATER FUND<br />
1. The sum bequea<strong>the</strong>d to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by <strong>the</strong> late Charles Slater, M.A., M.B., <strong>of</strong> St John’s<br />
College, ‘for purposes in any way connected with <strong>the</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong> or research work in medical science<br />
or any o<strong>the</strong>r science ancillary to medicine’, shall form a fund to be called <strong>the</strong> Charles Slater Fund.<br />
2. The income <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be applied for <strong>the</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>rance <strong>of</strong> teaching and research in medical<br />
science.<br />
3. The Managers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be (a) <strong>the</strong> Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Biology, (b) <strong>the</strong><br />
Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine, (c) two members appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board<br />
<strong>of</strong> Biology, (d) two members appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine, (e) one member<br />
appointed by <strong>the</strong> Faculty Board <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine. The members in classes (c), (d), and (e) shall<br />
be appointed to serve for three years from 1 January following <strong>the</strong>ir appointment. The Chairmanship<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers shall be held alternately by <strong>the</strong> member in class (a) and by <strong>the</strong> member in class (b),<br />
each for one year at a time. The Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> School <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Biological Sciences shall act as<br />
Secretary to <strong>the</strong> Managers.<br />
4. No resolution <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Managers shall be valid unless approved by at least four <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir number.<br />
5. The Managers may make grants to <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers or o<strong>the</strong>r persons, preference being given<br />
to graduates in Medicine, towards <strong>the</strong> expenses <strong>of</strong> research, or <strong>of</strong> travel undertaken in connection with<br />
research, or <strong>of</strong> travel undertaken to study methods <strong>of</strong> teaching, in Medicine or in any science ancillary<br />
to Medicine.<br />
6. Applications for grants from <strong>the</strong> Fund shall be submitted to <strong>the</strong> Secretary to <strong>the</strong> Managers through<br />
<strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> appropriate Department.
